I noticed on NcRenLL's great thread (y) there seem to be some interest in emission control equipment. I got to thinking that maybe a lot of folks that have older FSM might not have the section about the emission control system. I do not know when Jeep started putting that section in the FSM, but because mine is for the 71 year it has the latest on that system. So for you folks that do not have that section I have attached some picture out of that section showing the equipment. You might note that the section does not say anything about Calif. only systems so you might see some difference's in the pictures and NcRenll pictures.

    Mike

Thank you Mike, I have those pics in my manual, yet just noticed I'm lacking part 8 in the first v6 pic, the relief valve muffler and the hose routing is different as I have the air filter housing shown in the last picture.

I would expect California to have vapor recovery as well. Should be the same as what's shown in the 1972 TSM for 49 states. Maybe this is covered in a SB?

california was the worst place to own a vehicle . because of smog program
took my alabama jeep out there . of course the smog stuff was long gone
first few smog cycles . I was able to get a wavier . every two years
the very last wavier I applied for was rejected . seem someone had a contract with CARB
for supplying your missing smog parts . box full of used parts for a buick v6 $400 . not a jeep v6 system by any means
had to buy it just for it to fail again . but got another wavier
left in 92 . the injector tubes rotted out . a few years later and now whats left is in a box again

In 69 would only California have emissions? I bought my 69 local in Ohio and I don't know where it came from originally. It had the ports plugged in the heads and the extra hose attachment on the air cleaner. No other equipment on it.

I don't know for sure - '69 was before my driving years. I know that California ordered retrofit devices (vacuum advance modulation) on most older vehicles in the '70s. The earliest vapor recovery could have been present was 1970, with the introduction of the rear mounted gas tank. Air injection was one of the earliest additions. If you can find the proper parts book and/or supplement for the years of production, you should be able to determine what was originally there. I mentioned Service Bulletins above, but there may have been a California supplement for those years - issuing supplements was a pretty common practice.

There was other pre-70 emission equipment (pcv, intake air pre-heating and distributor timing events) beginning in 63.

Reviewing these diagrams I'm pretty sure that our 71 Ren II has all of the original smog equipment (save for perhaps rubber hoses, clamps and a small section of fuel return line that melted against heat riser). 2 weeks ago I located and picked up an original smog pump "muffler" (item 4.507-2 shown on Gr 4 - L 27, thx jpflat 2a) and it's installed. The odd mechanical gulping sound is now gone.
