So here is a recap from the introductions section. About 3 months ago i was able to realize a dream of mine to own an old cj5. I paid $350 for my 1972 cj5 with the whole plow setup. The jeep is all original (except for some REALLY creative wiring), and despite it's heavy patina:rofl: i have driven it under it's own power (about a hundred feet:D).
I know I have quite a project ahead of me but, it's a labor of love as they say! Here is a link to a video of my new found undertaking.

First things first. I'll spend this coming week doing what I can to remove the old junk body (hopefully it's an easy work week), then down to the nitty gritty. There will be pictures a plenty as I start to dive in!

The engine does sound very good.(y)

    Whats the plan of attack?
Will you tear the engine down to rebuild fully, or a simple tidy up of the outside?
New body or repairing the original?

The only advice I could give is to bag and label all the bolts and small parts as you pull things apart.

Much easier to ID what goes where when you try to put things back together later, and a few bucks for a few different sized plastic bags with sealing tops is the best investment I made when I was doing up my '74.

My plan is to remove the body and see how the frame looks as a whole. The body itself is no good. I took a look underneath and it looks like there are only two bolts left holding the tub on. All of the other bolts aren't holding anything at all since the body is so rotted (should make for an easy removal:cool:) Then, clean the engine, repair/replace any broken or worn parts and the give it some flare. Not really looking to have a "showroom" appearance just a bit better than it is now. Then on to brakes, axle seals, diff, fuel system etc. Go all over it and get ready for a new tub.I did do some work today though.

When you get the body off you might want to take some pics, there are many on here that have restored tubs that started as swiss cheese. Even if your skills or desires aren't up to that much work, others would rather rebuild old stock than buy a new tub.
    Just my $.02

Can't wait to see what you do.

Welcome to the club. The most important thing i can say is to be careful the project does not become too big. I see people, me included, who start with a small project and end up with more than they can do. Resist the urge to pull it all apart at one time unless you have done it before.

i'm doing a similar project with my '75, except the tub is fine. i've dismantled the cj, although i left the tub intact with the dash, and didn't remove the seat frames or roll bar.

the frame needed replacement, and i'm adding a rocky road outfitters yj spring conversion. not at all a restoration; just a rebuild.

i'm on the other side of concord, in wilmot.
