Couple questions based on last post:

I am going to replace my fuel pump. currently have a double action pump but don't use vacuum wipers on the Jeep (60 CJ5 with 134 F-head)

Do I need the dual action as it does connect to the vacuum lines on the engine?
Where can I get a good fuel pump? Don't mind paying extra for a quality pump
Should I consider going with an electric pump?

No, just cap off the port at the pvc tee.

Your best bet for mechanical would be a quality rebuild kit.

Lots of people go that route with no issues.

where did you place this pump on your Jeep? one of the reviews said it needs to be below the fuel supply (push style pump) ..... Guess I could attach it to the frame under the Jeep so it is out of the way. Just wonder about issues with water when running in creeks or mud holes.

The vacuum pump is an integral part of the PCV system. Without a functioning PCV, you can look forward to poor performance and oil leaks from overpressurized seals.

Mounted to frame under the tank.

Wondering about that. So you think I need the dual action pump? the after market pumps are crap from what I have seen.

I always thought that if a Jeep is not leaking something, it is time to add more...… :D

Is that the same for my f134 with draft tube?

I'm afraid I have to disagree- the pcv doesn't need the pump to function. Lots of F4's out there without a vacuum pump, the pump is solely there to assist with vacuum to the wipers under open throttle.

PCV vacuum is established at the intake manifold.

Mine has a hose going from air intake to block. And exits from valve cover to intake manifold.

I finally had to do that too. I'd like to try rebuilding the mechanical if I can find a rebuild kit.

did you take the original pump out of the loop or just add this as a booster? looks like I could go either route. Keep the original look but have the benefit of the electric pump. thoughts?

x2. Lots of jeeps use a single diaphragm pump.

The draft tube as the first attempt at positive crankcase ventilation proved problematic. Deepwater, mud, and snow diminish its efficiency. The PCV valve and its tube to the valve cover became the standard used for the L-head. With the advent of the F-head, it was determined that the intake manifold vacuum was not sufficient and needed augmentation from a separate source. Vacuum pumps were developed simply because customers complained about the poor operation of their windshield wipers. Then someone decided that electric wipers would be better and the vacuum pump could be used to augment the PCV.

Interesting, do you have any source material or diagrams showing this? It was my understanding that with the introduction of electric wipers they went to a single stage pump. It seems to me that there would have to be plumbing change to use the vac pump to augment the pvc system as in it's configuration for wiper assist it would actually be decreasing vacuum at the pvc port not increasing it.

Wikipedia... Although it references tank engines, I recall reading that the same principle applied to Jeeps, for example M38A1 fording sysyems.

"Although the modern purpose of a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system is to reduce air pollution, the original purpose was to allow an engine to operate underwater without the water leaking in. The first PCV systems were built during World War II, to allow tank engines to operate during deep fording operations, where the normal draft tube ventilator would have allowed water to enter the crankcase and destroy the engine."

There is one rubber line coming off the fuel pump vacuum portion. I don’t see any others. It’s plugged with a stick. I assumed it was for wipers at one point but not sure as there are no wipers now. Should I hook that line up to the T after the PCV valve?

would not having this hooked up potentially cause my exhaust to smoke bluish. Also having some creamy oil/water at the top portion of the dipstick tube though I have been idling the engine off and on for 10-15 mins at a time while I check everything out..

I took the air cleaner to dip stick hose off and the dip stick seemed to be blowing air outward not pulling it inward...

    Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Took off the PCV valve and fittings to investigate. Everything is totally clogged shut. Took apart and giving a good soak. Will see what’s salvageable...

Could this being blocked have caused increased oil pressure? Both of my brand new oil lines leaked like crazy and I had to replace them. Not sure if that’s related or not
