Been a while since I've been on the board...I like the new look !! Probably take me a while to figure out where everything's at.....

My 75 CJ5 w 258/6...65,000 miles has been running well...up until about a month ago. I changed the plugs, reset timing, checked the wires....all the usual stuff.
I now think the problem is carburetion. It has the original issue (not the original carb) which is the Carter YF one-barrel. I've tried basic stuff like changing fuel filter, using Gum-out carb cleaner, adjusting mixture and idle. She starts fine with revs at about 1000 then after about two minutes, I'll blip the throttle and she will settle down to about 700. Perfect, right?

Well after she warms up (like an expressway drive) you pull up to a light and revs go waaay down, like about 200 and I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep her idling. She almost stalls. On top of that, when you back off on the throttle in 2 or 3 gear (3 speed tranny) she sounds like muffled backpressure or almost a backfire. Hard to describe...

So basically, I am looking for a GOOD mechanic in the Suwanee,Duluth , Cumming or Alpharetta area of North Atlanta. I would like someone to go over the exhaust system too, including the intake and exhaust manifolds to see if that might cause the problem.

Anyone able to recommend a good mechanic, that might also be able to rebulid my Carter YF...Thanks !!
