Here's how the story goes: I've been searching for a sidewinder for years and have already passed up looking at/getting two in the past 5 years and finally when the third came around I had enough and snagged it. $60 got me the winch, solenoid box, controller, and mounting plate for a late 70's bronco. This thread will be my rebuild process documented with part numbers and pictures. Bear with me as I will only get a day or two a week to work on this because I'm back at Rutgers during the week.

After lots of reading, here are the parts I have come up with I will confirm if they are correct as I work on replacing parts...I need to get a sandblasting cabinet now..

Outer case bearing: JAF brand model R-12
Inner case bearing : SKF brand model EE6
Top cover free spool shaft seal: Timken brand model 7188S
Bottom spool seal: SKF brand model 14857
motor gear case seal: SKF brand model 7414

working on tracking down a replacement motor and part number for such, current prestolite motor on it is a MBJ4412

got the top cover off and found a lot of water:

Top gear and worm drive look good,

Free spool shaft seal not so much:

Moved on to taking the front cover off to inspect the other gears, had to hammer on smaller metric sockets to get some of these bolts loose, broke a fair lead bolt too, fun later down the road for me

Found where all the water was hiding over the years....

The gears look serviceable if i blast them, the rust scraped off pretty easy with a knife in the teeth and they seem like there is enough tooth lest for it to work fine

and finally the dead 3 post motor:

I can't win with these pictures, I see them on my end. Let me see if it's a privacy issue.

I have some trouble with it sometimes too. I snap pics with my camera, download to the laptop, then to my media from the laptop. Old school I guess but, it almost always works.

Picked up another one last night on the way to get chicken wings down in the pine barrens. $50. Now I have a second one incase I end up needing parts or if they both end up being serviceable a second one to rebuild. The first one should clean up with new seals and bearings and a motor. I just need to find a sand blasting cabinet to clean these things and their gears up... Urg next purchase. I need to make sure I have enough money to buy my GF Christmas and birthday presents.

I was going to buy her cushions for my boat so she can stay comfy when we go out on it... That's for her, right?
