    Fwiw...
Book time on front ball joints on a Wrangler is 2.0 hrs a side. 3.6 for both sides.
Warranty is less, can't remember what they pay. With Chrysler stuff at least it's quite a bit less on the warranty rate than if I look it up thru mitchell or alldata.
I've had enough 6 speeds out of minivans that I can have the trans out and back in, in about 3-3.5hours if I don't get distracted. Warranty is 6 hours. But like Mike said, I know what bolt comes out in what order and what socket to use when.

Kinda on the subject of labor rates...
Some of you may have already seen this or saw my post many moons ago about this.
We had a customer buy a brand new 69 CJ5 V6. His old Jeep (which he traded in as shown) was a 56 CJ5.
I don't recall all the reasons why, but we had to take the new 69 and remove the body, and install his 56 body on the 69 chassis.
So here you will see the sales order writing up the 69, with the accessories to install, and swapping the body.
Also here is the internal RO (repair order) to install the overdrive, locking hubs and do the body swap.
I don't recall the labor rate back then, but you can see the total cost to do all the work at the bottom of the RO.
This includes the dealer cost of the overdrive, locking hubs and the labor to install them.
I'm gonna guess the labor rate was about $15 (it could have been less) which is what was charged to install the overdrive.
Just read down thru what had to be done; somewhere out there is a 56 with a brand new 69 body on it.
How did he (we ?) register that with DMV ? Swap the VIN plates or what ? I don't know those answers.
    Enjoy.

    $3500 for a Jeep, at a time when a basic Mustang or F-150 wasn't much over $2000.

Speaks to how highly desirable a Jeep was, when 4x4 was almost unique to Jeep.

We bought our first '56 at that time, and paid about $500 for a total rust-bucket with a worn-out engine.
"Hundred Dollars a Wheel" was known as the rock bottom price for anything that would roll.

That's an awesome post. Before I even started reading over the invoices, I was trying to imagine how cool Riverside, CA must have been in 1968. I was born too late and in the wrong place. But that's off topic.

Got any pics of the dealership or anything from back then, Jim?

Yes, when I bought my first Jeep new in 1973, it was $4400 out the door. For the same price, I could have bought a new fully equipped BMW 2002tii (the only other car I considered). The Jeep was not an inexpensive car.

That's crazy, wanting the new drive train but keeping the old body. By now we've probably critiqued both of those Jeeps. :D

There was something special about the old body he wanted to keep....I don't recall the story.
I've often wondered what happened to the old Jeep with new body.
    Parts guys nightmare.

Must have really been special since I'd say your dad went out of his way to make the guy happy. 2nd part is how your dad came out economically.....did he sell the old drive train/new body for enough to make money?

All factory warranty claims had to be imprinted with the dealer information from the plates shown below applied to the warranty claim.
Think of a giant credit card hand operated imprinter, only for 8.5 x 11 forms.
The upper plate is our information when under the Kaiser Jeep banner.
31 = the Los Angeles sales zone ; 1493 = our assigned Jeep dealer number.

The lower plate is dated June 1983, and would have been from the AMC/Renault dictatorship/reign of terror.
The lower plate shows our dealer information with new address.(We relocated in Nov 1973)
31 = the Los Angeles sales zone ; 7394 = our new Jeep dealer number.
Also shown is "2700" upper right; that's the labor rate we were paid for doing warranty work.
In this case it would be $27.00 per hour.
For an increase in labor warranty hourly rate, you had to petition the factory.
You had to visit your local Big 3 (Chevy Ford Dodge) and get then them to imprint one of their warranty claims for you
showing what their hourly labor rate was for warranty work.
You would submit this documentation with your request.
The factory would then render a decision based on the paperwork and local area economics.

An interesting side note is that we were grandfathered in from Kaiser to AMC to Chrysler.
We were and always remained a Jeep only dealership.
They couldn't force us to take AMC, Renault, or Chrysler cars.
