IMG_0958.JPG Still on the prowl for a classic jeep. I'm looking at a flat fender (mostly CJ3a) that's seems to be an 80's-90's style build-up. I'm trying to identify parts based on pics the current owner is sending me. He doesn't know a ton about the specs and his pics are pretty lousy.
Here's what I know, or think I know about this transmission:

    - 4 speed
    - Bolted to a Buick 231 V6. Not sure if even or odd fire.
    - I see no bell housing adapter
    - looks to have a pretty thin t-case adapter
    - Has a reverse gear to the right and down (next to fourth)
    - Owner claims it has a granny gear

Looks like an sm465 to me. But it seems to lack the thick ribbing low on the case. Not a T18 or T19 I don't think. Also not so sure about the weird plate thing over the side cover...maybe it holds a rubber bushing for the skid-plate cross member. Any thoughts? Cheers

Thanks guys. I think I just needed confirmation. I think it's a decent rig. Clean, no rust. Power steering. Hanging pedals. OD. No lift kit. Lots of nice upgrades. I feel like it needs a good rehab. I have to drive 10 hours or so for it so I'm trying to get as much info as possible...but its a good price. I know it has either a dana 25 or 27 front end because I can see closed knuckles in a pic. 44 rear w/ detroit. The ring and pinion is a mystery (guy doesn't know). I figure it either has ECJ5 axles or original axles. And so 4.88 or 5.38. Supposed to have some sort of locker in front too.

    Got a Warn OD too

That trans- does a 465 have a rear facing drain plug? It doesn't seem quite right. Also, looks like there might be two trans to TC adaptors, one thin aluminum and another larger/longer one mostly hidden by the crossmember.

And that's a unique way of supporting the transmission- bolting to the PTO port
