The winch plate I picked up has a lock that has no key. It's in a locked position and if possible I'd like to get it poen and usable again. This lock has a tube of steel about 1 1/4 inch diameter and 1 3/4" tall that has a couple lugs that catch the lock cylinder. Does anyone have one of these locks that can tell me what type of key is used?
The cylinder looks something like this except there is a flap door covering the key-way.

best bet is carry the whole thing in to a locksmith. they can cut keys based on the code on the cylinder.

Thank you Geoffrey I scoured lock for a code and there is none. It's a key type I've not seen and I have literally 100's of old keys.
It's most similar to some form of a cabinet lock. I plan to call warn, and then as you suggested go to a lock smith. I may opt to cut the welds holding the tube to the plate and just take the lock in as the winch with the plate and all is a beast (w8274). I'd like to keep the setup vintage so, to me it's worth re-keying.

Thank you Walt, I've sent him an email through his contact page, hope to get some guidance.
Called Warn today and they said that they have never included, or sold locks with winches, or plates.
These old vehicles and their accessories are challenging. Gives me something to do in the spare time.

We had to have a key made for a hummer roof carrier and they made us bring it in and would not cut from the key code incase we were trying to break into something of someone else's
