Been looking for seat covers for my 66 cj-5. I know custom made covers are hi dollar.
Only thing I have found so far is Bestop and they do not look all that good fit wise? In the advertising photo they look loose/wrinkled.
Gotta be something else out there........................
    Any suggestions ?

These are Bestop seat covers that I had on my stock 1970 seats. They looked pretty good and lasted for over a decade. When they finally started getting worn, I had my seats reupholstered because Bestop no longer makes this color....if they did I would have just bought a replacement set.

No personal experience with the Smittybilt seats, but for me, the original bucket seats are very comfortable and supportive, and they fit the available space about as well as possible. Taller drivers will not find them comfortable, but IMO they won't find any seat comfortable that fits in the available space. If you are average height or shorter and not too big around the belly, I'd recommend fixing up your factory seats. Several members have had their seats recovered at a local upholstery shop, and they all came out really well - search. I also recall some complaints re the comfort and fit of replacement seats - also amenable to search.

Colo guy-those seats look really good. Is the floor finished with bed(?) coating also looks great. I like the RED on the seat frames
I thought about replacement seats, BUT the pass side does not fold.
    Thanks to all

That's a rubber pickup bed mat that I cut down to fit the Jeep.
The lack of a folding option is why I never considered replacement seats.

Theres a company that sells stock style covers on ebay. I think they were $175 for the pair? I installed them on my 67 and they came out very nice. This is assuming your original springs and foam are in good shape.

The same seller also has kits for the '72-75 CJs. JEEP 1972-1975 CJ LOW BACK BUCKET SEATS UPHOLSTERY KIT | eBay

The pleats go up and down instead of across. There may be a difference between this kit and the '76-up kit, since the '76-up passenger seat has a rigid back. AFAIK the buckets from the late 60s and early 70s are all the same except for the fabric pattern - the passenger seat folds and tumbles through 1975. You might contact the seller for advice.

Those are the ones I used. They are almost like the originals, but the pleats are a little narrower and they are sewn, not stamped or melted or whatever.

"Should" is the word. I don't know of any relevant difference between the '66 buckets and the '72 buckets. Seating position is different, fabrics are different, but the seat core and frames are the same ... AFAIK. I'd still check with the seller.

As far as I know, all the low back seats that use molded foam (not the older ones that have separate padding and springs) are equivalent. Before I bought mine, I asked the seller and he had no idea what applications would fit. Seems like most of the parts sellers don't usually have much knowledge of the older Jeeps.

You are definately right on sellers not really knowing their stuff. There is a 'ammeter' gauge for wagons/trucks on now that is really an oil pressure gauge and he wants to argue he has it listed correctly. But the pic proves otherwise.

I had my stock Tux seats re-done by a local custom shop, they replaced the stuffing with something like the original, I had no broken springs, so they came out like stock seats. Half of the suspension in a Jeep is in the seats, if they are too hard you will spill your drink. Lots of luck.
The cost was $350.00 for all the split bench and two fender pads, done in marine vinyl.
