How many miles do you guys go between plug changes? I'm not at that point yet, but a curiosity thing. I'm so in the mode of modern cars where plugs last forever.

When I drove my wagon to work I think I put about 10,000 miles on a set of plugs before I changed them The 226 uses the same plugs as the F-head. CJ5 driving over the years has been more sporadic so I can't give a mileage estimate. I would think that mileage isn't going to be a concern compared to the type of driving you'll probably encounter.

Speaking of plugs I think i put mine in 11 years ago and 7000 miles in the V6. Im running autolite 85 . Id like to try a cooler plug because i get dieseling sometimes. I have some AC R45s would that be better? What would you recommend

I know the FSM states to check every 6,000 and replace as needed. I was just curious with spuratic driving that I think most of these get now, what people are experiencing.

Why fix something that isn't broke ?
Pull them out at 10k and inspect.
If okay stick them back in.

Yeah, it's a pretty simple item. Easy to see when they are getting burned out.

In the old days the main reason for changing plugs so often was the lead in the fuel fouled and carboned up the plugs. Nowadays that problem is long gone. Realistically you should be able to get at least 20,000 miles out of a set of plugs unless your engine is really worn and having blowby issues.

As cheap as they are and with only 4 cylinders I tend to do this too. Not sure how many miles I rack up in that time but probably not a whole lot.
