Hey folks... got a complete 258 driveline from my 80 CJ5. The motor runs, but has seen better days. Wanting to get it rebuilt, and as that is beyond my skills (machining etc) i’m trying to find a good shop. I’m in south texas on the coast, and there is no one here that will consider it. They all all wanna sell me a crate motor. Any suggestions? This will be a future transplant motor...

Who is the "they"? Engine rebuilders love rebuilding engines. Parts sellers love selling reman parts.

You're saying that no shop in the south Texas area will rebuild your core. They all want to exchange for a rebuilt engine. I suspect if you look around, you can find a shop that will rebuild your core. There's no such thing as a "crate engine" for a 258. To me, a crate engine is a new production engine, sold as a complete unit. You can buy remanufactured (or rebuilt) engines that are old engines that have been refurbished to function like new. Nobody is making new 258s today.
