I need to pull out rear oil seal out of my d18 transfercase- is there an easy way to do it? I have tried using a slide hamer, and carefully prying with a big screwdriver. It still does not want to come out. Anyone have suggestions. its a 69cj5:(

Should easily come out with a big screw driver.

I've had some really stuck before. If it won't come out with the other methods carefully use a small punch or chisel and carefully bend the outer metal ring inward being careful not to score the housing. Work your way around. This can relieve the tension between the seal and housing and allow you to pop it out with a pry bar, large screw driver, etc.

Trying to get mine from leaking, I've taken that yoke and seal out probably 15 times. I bought a regular seal puller from the parts store. It's the one that's just a handle with 2 flat hooks on either side. It tears and rips the seal getting it out....but it gets them out

If you've tried that many times it is probably not the seal. What is the condition of the seal contact surface on the yoke? Maybe you need a Speedi-Sleeve. That and a new seal, all properly installed there should be no leaks.

Sometimes even a seal puller does not get the job done. I try it first and if it just splits the seal lip, try grabbing the split lip with a flat jawed small Visegrip and use the back of the rounded upper jaw to cam it out. Like CJ Joe, if there isn't already a speedie sleeve on the companion flange/yoke, there will be one on there when it goes back together-really cheap if you time is worth anything. My only exception is when using new parts.

Another way to pull a seal that has worked for me several times is to drill a hole in the seal and install a sheet metal screw. Then you can grab the screw head with vice grips or a slide hammer.

You are right, but it wasn't the yoke as a new one of those was installed and it wasn't the contact surface either. Turns out, when the T/C was put together, the rear bearing was turned the wrong way. Since it was tapered the wrong way, it worked itself inside the case just a little. That in turn caused the mainshaft to wobble and subsequently a leak was caused. Either way....I got pretty versed in taking that rear yoke/seal off. It was like I had a cut finger so I was wrapping my toe
