I know that all Jeeps have a habit of dripping a little oil now and then, but my t-18 is leaking heavily from the speedometer cable connection.

I've tried to tighten the connection but that doesn't help at all. Is there a chance that I'm missing a gasket or an O-ring in there?

The 3 speed transmissions share oil with the dana18 transfercase (t18 is a 4 speed transmssion), they have a bad habit of draining oil to the transfercase when going up hills. Mine is overfilled right now and leaking out the speedo cable hole also. The transmission needed about a pint of oil to top it off. There is no o-ring missing, just part of the design.

The retainer for the dana 20 is the same as the dana 18 except that the 20 retainer has a seal in it. you might fill in the oil spiral on the speedo gear to discourage a leak that way. I did this swap a while ago. the leak is much reduced. I hope to improve things more when I get around to changing said seal. AM

Just cut a little gasket to put it there, either cork or rubber. :hurrican:
