I believe it is to keep water from dripping down and collecting under the tank.

I thought all was good motor wise, but it seems my fuel pump is not working very well, so I ordered a new one. I am not sure but it will drain the line from the pump to the carb overnight, even after putting in a check valve. Either way when I try to start it it is not pumping fuel, it was working fine and I am not sure if it got something stuck in it or if the diaphragm has a hole in it?

I did get my new Bestop seat put in and got it to sit quite a bit lower an am still able to use the slider on it. :D

New shackles and bell crank and steering work are next.

The weather around here has been pretty jeep friendly, unfortunately I have been having Fuel pump issues and am waiting for a new one.

I should have gone out yesterday and worked on the Shackles, but I was not really ambitious this weekend, got my second shot on Friday and was just tired all weekend. Plus I need to look at my selection of tools and see if I can do the work in my driveway or if I need to go to my Dads place and work in his shop. I have been working on building up my tool collection but it has been slow going. :(

Anyway hope to get some stuff done this week. (y)

shackles don't take many tools, just a jack, sockets, wrenches and breaker bar if i remember correctly.

Fuel pump was sitting on the porch when I got home so I put it in and it works great, lots of fuel pressure. Drove it to work this morning (burr), good thing it is close.

Now I need to re-adjust the carb since it is getting fuel better than it has, and check the timing again, to see if I can get it to run better. :bananatool:

I will post pics of this later, but I took off the rear passenger side shackle, and was surprised to find that these are the original shackles, the bottom one is worn over halfway through from just resting in the spring eye since the rubber perished long ago the inner and outer metal sleeves were also worn through.:shock::shock::shock:

Man ignorance is bliss, these things are scary bad, at lease I addressed the issue before it broke.

I got a pretty substantial refund for all the years they overcharged me. I was surprised that the "Value" of a 45 year old beater jeep was higher than my wife's Acura MDX. It was valued at $111,111 which is obviously someone stuffing in a number for "unknown".

EDIT Also they don't care about the condition of your particular vehicle. It's not about that. It's about the standard MSRP adjusted for depreciation.

Good times today, went over to my dad's, he has more tools and a lift. Air chisel was a must, and even with that getting those outer sleeve out was a pain in the ***.
Got them out put and put on Daystar 1/2 inch lift shackles, well they brought it up more like an inch and a half :D.
My 14 year old helping as well as the dog. I also finally painted the stencil on the back.

Got the tie rod ends replaced, not too bad, good thing I was at my Dad's place since it took a torch and an air chisel to get them apart. :bananatool: Bell crank is its own weekend project, and I just did not have time this weekend, sure does drive better now.

What options do I have for Carburetors? The Solex carb works, but it kinda sucks for tuneing, it has super high idle when cold, and the throttle return is really slow, I like to see a butterfly for my choke and just have a normal carb on it... Any suggestions? I can build an adaptor if I can't buy one, just sick of this carbs temperamental nature. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

If I was in the market for a brand new carb, I would look at a Weber 2 barrel DGEV. I had one on an 85' CJ-7 after tearing my hair out over the stock Carter that it came with, and the Weber I replaced it with was awesome.

Got a windshield glass ordered up, $200 that will be the next job is the glass install and then work on the wipers/install a second wiper motor or change them both to match. Any suggestions for wiper motors? I have seen prices all over the place on these things.

I am going to paint it too when the glass is out, I hope to get my Dad to redo his jeep picture an name on the bottom of the frame.

Thank you for the offer, my Dad owned his own body shop for years and has all of the tools to put in the glass. (y)

Well I went to the G503 open house in central point Oregon, not really looking for anything and I found this.

Vented windshield frame, for a CJ, glass is broken, but it is complete, I'm super stoked to have found it.

So I got a replacement glass from the local Jeep place Woody's, it is used out of another frame, my Dad and I spent about an hour trying to get it to go in, and after the 3rd round we decided to check it against the old piece, and it is about a 1/2 inch shorter than mine, so it will never fit. Okay so my dad knows a guy that owns a glass shop and he took it to them, long story short in about a week I should have glass in my vented window and have a new glass for my regular frame. Debellas has my frame to frame seal I need so that will get ordered soon.

Next adventure was coming back from a car show last week a pin fell out of my throttle linkage and the pedal dropped to the floor, okay got a pin for it, fixed, then I noticed that it is threaded and then I noticed that with the pedal to the floor I am only getting 2/3 throttle, well crap that would explain why I was not able to pull some hills very well. I adjusted it and get a little moor throttle now and it will go faster, that is when I really noticed that the thing is scary  to drive faster with the worn bell crank and about a quarter turn of slop in the wheel. So I already had the parts so since I was stopped with the window I figured may as well change that. WOW what a difference it makes, now the only play is in the steering box, and I plan to get a tight steer for that in the near future.

Sorry, no pics with greasy hands hard to get those.

I ordered a Tight Steer, so that should help with the little bit of play that is left in the wheel. I am still waiting for the glass, got the frame to frame seal from Debella, looks good, will fit just right.

When I get the windows back I need to get some seat time in it and make sure it is all good for Browns Camp, next weekend.

Going to put the big window in tonight, and the Tight Steer over at my Dad's place. I hope that I get the Safari Window back before this weekend.
