Renegade 1

    The frame is square in front so thats good. It has some repair work on the front shackles and the angle iron support, but nothing catastrophic and I don’t see any cracking. Perhaps as I dig deeper but so far it looks good.

    Looks like it had an oil change in San Jose at Lee Kreger Chevron, you know when gas stations actually worked on cars and stuff

    More work on the Jeep today making sure all the wiring is disconnected so I can get the tub off the frame. There are several factory clips, it appears, that’s hold the wiring harness from the rear of the jeep. Got those off and saved. Then I removed the brake pedal, the bolt
    Has to come all the way out to get the arm off.

    I’m working in my home garage so the plan is to take the parts over to my shop as I remove them. My home garage isn’t very big.

    Things are tight at home but I am so glad I brought the renegade home. I am working on it more because it’s easier at home. Next move is taking tub off when I get some help.

    Dumb question ; why don't you remove the steering wheel. I dropped the ross box out the bottom with wheel removed on my 1968. I'm sure you have a reason. mike

    Mike, I was trying to avoid messing with the steering wheel as it has a bunch of cracking and I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, I’d have to use a puller on it. I may loosen the nut and see if it comes off easy. Either way as soon as I lift that front corner it should give me the clearance to get the steering column and wheel out. Thanks

    That square plate in the center is the PTO shifter hole, definitely original. Its a shame the rust from the lack of paint in the toolbox made it onto the tunnel. It seems no one makes the raised tunnel as a repair panel - only the flat floors. I haven't found a driver side floor repair with the embossed trough by the raised tunnel either. Midwest has that floor section with the trough, but its for an M38A-1 with the fuel tank well. They don't make the flat panel to substitute for the well.

    Although this build was on hold for a year or two it seems to be movin at Light speed now. I’ve worked hard over the last two weeks, any spare time, to get it to this point. Next up was to order the floor pans and after doing some research and looking around at what others are using I landed on using the Midwest military floor pans, floor supports and rocker panels. I had a good conversation with John at Midwest and I’m looking forward to getting these panels. I’ll have to source my cowl supports from classic ent or my yellow donor jeep I have. I also may have to use the yellow donor jeep trans tunnel if it’s in better shape because mine is rusted bad. Lastly I’ll need a few patch panels for the floor I’m hoping to source from my donor jeep.
    Donor jeep I paid @150 bucks for this :bananatool:, it’s a roller with no engine or trans

    That jeeps got some issues it’s frame was poorly boxed and it looks like it had headers because the fenders are cut. Also it’s been rolled for sure. It’s still got potential though. As for now I’m hoping to get some usable jeep patch panels from it for the Renegade.

    Speaking of panels the brown Santa came today and brought some floor panels and some hat channels from Midwest military.

    The hardest part of this project is where to start and I’ve decided that the rocker panels would be a good start. Anyone that has any other ideas feel free to advise. I’m thinking get the rocker and the lower cowl support on one side replaced. One side at a time is the plan.

    The panels seem really nicely made with the correct placement of the holes and the angles for the body mounts.

    Here’s the angled body mount on the bottom of the floor pan.

    The passenger rocker is wasted probably from a combination of the carpet and the metal rocker trim piece. Either way I sourced new rocker panels from Midwest as well.

    Not sure how high or wide I’ll go and I’ll take advice on this but at least I have coverage to that door sill if I need it for the passenger side.

    Those are nice pieces, I didn't know they were available. I can see needing those hat channels one day.
