I just rebuilt the Rochester 2g on my dauntless. Replaced everything. Now it doesn't want to run unless the choke is nearly full on. Other than that, it works fine. Not getting enough air. Did I do something wrong? I don't find any vacuum leaks either. Any ideas / thoughts?

Choke on to run likely not getting enough fuel. 2g is fairly simple but there are lots of nooks and crannies that need "rodded" out.
More details needed. Does it start and idle? Or does it just not rev up/ stumbles under load?

I just rebuilt two 2G's and had the opposite problem--too much gas. Cured both with opening just the top and resetting the float. Couldn't believe I didn't have the floats right the first time.

Carburetor isn’t getting enough fuel? 1.) Check float level. 2.) The needle may be sticking in the seat, not letting enough fuel in. Be sure the tiny clip is not binding the needle. 3.) May have plugged passages.

If you give it gas while opening the choke, does it run or die?

The choke linkage is connected to the idle cam, giving you more gas/higher idle when choked. You may just need to adjust the idle so it’s higher when the choke is open?

Are you sure about that? Sound like a classic symptom of vacuum leak to me.

From all of the advice from this group and others, it does act like the float as you advise. It runs quite well with the choke on as it is now. Good acceleration, idles high (1000), pcv checks good. No vacuum leaks found. Even plugged off the dizzy vacuum. If the float adjustment doesn't fix the problem tomorrow, where else could it be getting air to run.

High idle very likely a vacuum leak. They can be pesky to find. Try using a propane torch ( not lit)

Thanks all for the advice. It was float adjustment. The FSM shows how to adjust the plastic floats but I guess you have to guesstimate the dimensions for the brass ones? Had the top off 3 times but now it runs great!!

I have 2 cjs one with a plastic float which i adjusted with the fsm and a other with a brass float. I was wondering how you set the brass float. I thought I read somewhere it was measured by the seam in the middle??? I can’t remember

Per an instruction sheet I got from mikes carburetor parts, for a Rochester float on a 225 you “measure from gasket to top of float at toe end.”
