Another Roxer question for my neighbor. He's about to purchase the ox-locker set up for front and rear axle from the ATV place that sold him the Roxor. He told me they were gonna install it and I told him I didn't think that was a good idea. My expectation is that this place which solely sells motorcycles, boats, and ATVs would not have a mechanic who could install the ox-locker correctly. I'm picturing the ring gear and pinion gear set up needing precise adjustments and shims and what have you.

These Ox-Lockers are really expensive. I then got to wondering...if the axles in the Roxor are just Jeep axles why wouldn't someone be able to just order any type of locker for whatever jeep axle is in there? Not exactly sure what axles are in it but it seems like I heard it had Dana 44's front and rear.

I know there's probably some sort of deal that Mahindra has with Ox-Locker that prohibits them from selling straight to the public but I figure maybe someone has figured out how to work around that.

Like maybe someone knows what Detroit Locker, or Yukon Locker, or ARB Locker would fit the axle in the Roxor.

The Roxor uses 19 spline tapered axles on the back- there's not a lot of selection (i.e."1") for a selective locker which tend to be available only for flanged 30 spline axles. You could do a lunchbox locker or source an old Powerloc lsd but rumour has it the Roxor axle is a few mm out from the Dana which may cause issues with setting the ring gear mesh.

I agree that he should have the work done by someone with experience.

Thanks Howard, I done a little internet browsing myself and I think Ox-Locker does in fact have a deal with Mahindra so that this Locker is only available at the dealer...for $1,800...each...plus installation.

I called a buddy at a power train shop and he said a minimum of $400 per axle to install it but...I believe they've got these set up for electric engagement which I'm not crazy about. I'd prefer the manual cable operated version with a shift lever for each axle. But...it is what it is.

That's hitting $5,000 for lockers. Man that's steep. But...I sure hope he gets them because right now it's strictly a peg leg. The tire with the least resistance gets the power.

There is one other option out there that I can not in good conscience recommend- Eaton makes an e-locker available in 19 spline but it's an odd-ball setup designed for a flanged axle used in Oz only, no provision for the spacer used with the tapered shafts. It might work as is for the front axle, the rear will require a little creativity.

I would deal with a Jeep shop instead unless the UTV shop has Jeep guys around.

You can call OnTheRox Fabrication too. They have a gear guy in house to answer some questions.

Just a thought, aren’t most ox lockers set up for either manual or electric from what I saw on their site it’s not hard to go from cable to electric or the other way? Someone correct me if I am mistaken

You just have to buy the electric motor for the setup. They run off the cables as a default. You may want to look at shorter cables if your swapping.

BTW guys 30-spline axles are out for the Rox so any flavor of locker is basically on the menu.
