Had some time for the Jeep today. Did a couple odd projects.

Cut off the mystery axle bumper from the passenger side frame and repositioned the brake hose mount.

Attached a pedal to the clutch linkage and when I stepped on it heard a loud clunk and the nice tight linkage went completely slack. So I adjusted the AA chain linkage all the way in and clutch seems about correct. Got a photo that I think confirms the fork is on the pivot correctly. ??

I’ve never really looked at the rear brakes until today. I recently watched some YouTube videos about removing the drums and axels and I was a bit overwhelmed. Decided to just take a look and was surprised to find really good shape 11” brakes!!

Can anyone identify the axle shafts (good / not as good) tell me anything else I need to know from the photos?

The brakes are not self adjusting. Not a big deal for an occasional driver. Wheel stud missing. I’ve got a keen eye for the obvious.

Tapered axle shafts. I went thru H E double hockey sticks getting mine out. Had to break down and buy a puller. If you rebuild yours there is a really good youtube video of a guy rebuilding one of these, I learned a lot watching it. I wish he was a bit quicker on the delivery but he's really thorough and explains well. The shims and plates are crucial to your axle operating correctly.

    Test fitting the headers

The rear end of the header was touching the floorboards so I dropped the transmission crossmember an inch. Helps with driveshaft angle as well as I ended up with about a 4” lift.

This rollbar has been painted several times in 50+ years.

I’m pretty sure this was the first time it was sanded.

You might remember I had this huge 6”x3” rear bumper. It weighed over 60 lbs!

I cut the top off the other day. Now it’s like 10 or 15 lbs. I need to find a small piece of square tubing to install it.

Tonight I removed the rear tank and reworked the rubber lines in the rear. Got everything hooked up from tank to pump. Have the line plumbed up to the Carburetor ready for new carb soon.

    Stick-on wheel weights?
Are those good for a 4x4?
May not clear my front disc brakes.

I’ve never had stick-on weights stay on any wheel. The wheels are steel, don’t know why they didn’t use clamp on weights. Just put new 35” tires on my jeep and didn’t bother balancing. Put 400 miles on over the last two weeks and no issues.

    Today’s project- Spare Tire Carrier.

Started with a trip to buddy’s house, he has this awesome bandsaw.

Now all the angles are correct.

    Mostly welded up.

The main structure is 1.5”x 3/16 sq tubing. The cross bar is 1x1 sq. The upper tabs that bolt to tailgate tabs are 3/16” the lower hinge tabs are pretty thick - 5/16” I think.

    Thanks.
It’s a combination of a couple different carriers if seen here.

Looks good! I'll be building something similar this winter. I need more magnets first.
