T-98 Adapter Plate

    Hi There

    Can anyone tell me where I can get an Adapter plate to fit a T-98 or T-18 transmission on a CJ5, CJ6 or M38 bell housing ?

    The jeep part number is #910467

    I have seen many pictures of the adapter but none listed in the usual places for sale.

    If anyone can help with a new or used one please let me know.

    Your basically never going to find an OEM T98 to 134 bellhousing adapter unless you find one with the transmission still attached.
    The adapter plate itself is fairly basic and could feasibly be made yet you still will need the special T98 bearing retainer and that retainer is only attached to the correct T98-A transmission.

    What specific T98 or T18 are you attempting to mate to your 134 engine ?

    It's stamped on the side T98-148 N24. F4. 43 if that helps with the id

    Well I’m not very familiar with Gladiators but that would almost certainly have a 1-1/8” spline main drive gear. That main drive (input) will never fit a 134 engine without having it changed out or re-machined to fit.

    Your MDG is 12-7/8”
    And the 134 engine uses a MDG of 10-3/8” OAL

    As said you will need the adapter plate, main drive gear (input), and front bearing retainer. I know where a plate or two are but not the rest. You might hit up Hermtheoverdriveguy as he was having them. Not sure if he still is.

    I have a plate and a retainer that has been modified for the 1.125" MDG.

    Yes you are correct the input shaft is 1 1/8 10 spline.
    The transmission will be mounted on a Kubota diesel engine with custom made flywheel and adaptor plate so there is plenty of scope to make adjustments.

    I doubt that a factory 134 adapter plate will do you any good if mating T98 to a Kubota bellhousing.

    Thanks for the link to your rebuild. That is really helpful.
    Looks like you sourced your T-18 from a similar vehicle to mine but were lucky to get the original adaptor plate in the deal.

    The Kubota uses a backplate custom made for the 134F bellhousing. That is my starting point so whatever transmission I use , it must bolt to the 134F bellhousing.

    I just went down this same road with my Kubota build. Scrap the t98 and buy a T18! You will end up saving between 2-3" in drive shaft length if you buy a Kubota to SBC or SBF adaptor.
