Tie Rod And Ends Sources

    Was playing on the net and started looking for a replacement tie rod and ends for the 75 CJ6. One site lead to another and I was seriously considering Rugged Ridge's kit which includes a beefier tie rod and drag link (1 1/4"DOM tubing) along with new ends. When checking the details it appears that it is sourced from Taiwan. Was hoping to find something similar that was made here. Anyone know of a kit including the arms and ends that is made in the USA?

    I bent the tie rod on my 75 CJ. I bought one from 4WD.com. Complete..

    I just ordered new moog tie rod ends and a drag link from rock auto. Three tie rod ends, a drag link and an adjusting sleeve shipped for $117.84

    The Moog pieces are plenty strong for anything with a stock Dana 30. If you are running full hydro steering with 44 inch tires then yes you need to go with some bigger pieces.

    Its kind of funny, I want the bigger tie rod in part because I am not running big tires. The tie rod always seems close enough to the ground to bonk into things. I decided to go with the thicker tie rod but will keep the drag link the stock diameter. If I smack that on something I probably have more things to worry about.

    I've never had a TRE fail per say... its always been the rod or draglink that gets friendly with a rock..

    on my YJ that sees rocks I upgraded to Chevy 1 ton TRE's, over the knuckle... and larger diameter bars.. still a dana 30.. no issues since.

    Go Big or Go Home!............the price difference between the puny stock Tie Rod tapered joints and material.......is pretty minor when one considers the havoc once bent or broken it can create on the trail........all you need to convert is a tapered reamer or some of those inserts. Tie rods & Drag links can be built anywhere by using the weld in inserts..........or by investing in the Left & Right hand taps.............I would also do the tie rod flip just to get it up a little higher and out of the way......
