I just had a water pump go out on my 75 CJ5 with a 304. When removing the bolts 3 of the 1/4 bolts broke off in the aluminum housing. Most of the bolts had a lot of rust on them. I drilled & removed the 3 broken bolts & was able to save the threads in the housing. My question is when I install the new water pump should I put something on the threads to stop the steel bolts & aluminum housing from doing this again? What are other people doing? Maybe studs instead of bolts? Thanks

Use anti-seize. Get it at your flaps.

I've had good luck with the anti sieze stuff too. Either way some serious elbow grease is required - and some loud and raucous language.

Thanks for all the advise. The new water pump is installed with new bolts with anti seize.
