Fixed speedometer with a new cable and bought a hf magnetic can holder. Have had that hf item on the "must buy" list for weeks since Tlm E posted the idea. That idea/holder is awesome! 2018-06-14 15.45.06_crop_394x300.jpg

Used a 3" whole saw. also used Sponge Window Seal /air sealing tape to keep the aluminum from rubbing off the paint. Now I have a place for my phone and wallet

image.jpg Got a little done on the drivers seat mount on the 69 cj5. My column is as far left as possible and seat doesn't seem lined up correctly. I centered seat on mount. New holes I guess and to the right a little. I picked these seats up yesterday on Phoenix Craig's list. $220.00 a pair. Leather with cloth centers.

I let the magic smoke out of my new CJ2a. No pictures, but if you can imagine a butt ton of white smoke billowing out from under the dash, that's what it looked like. The P.O. had someone wire it in the 80's. I have only ran it about five time for a few minutes. Melted a wire from a solenoid to the ammeter and half a dozen wires lost insulation at the ammeter. My post-fire investigation also revealed that the wire harness has several twist on wire connectors so now I am researching complete wire harnesses. Fun.

Fired up the fhead and it runs a bubblin crude...

    Oil that is

Oil pressure gauge line sprung a leak the firewall. Copper line + no grommet at the firewall = worn line. This was a Gov't maintained (city) rig. 2018-06-18 07.33.47.jpg

I fabricated an 1/8” pipe bulkhead fitting. Run Aeroquip hose on the engine side and plastic on the gauge side. No rubbing.

Still waiting on all of my sheet metal to come back from paint and the engine from the machine shop for my 68 build, so in the mean time, I turned my attention to the 69 (noisy transmission bearings since purchased)...

    Pulled all of this...

    ...out of this...

    ...found things like this...

...took it all apart like this...

...cleaned, inspected, replacement parts as needed, full rebuild kits, painted, sealed and put it all back together like this...

Have to put it all back in soon, but taking a little vacation first. Oh, and in case you wondered where the rear transmission bearing cage went, seems the overdrive also acts as a bit of an industrial Cuisinart, it was full of fine metal shavings. Something to note, the OD is not very aggressively oiled, it only picks up oil from the little trough that inserts into the t-case. Just a trickle of oil in and a trickle out, therefore it is prone to holding alot of gunk. Good to remove and clean that if you rebuild transmission, transfer case or change oil.

Forgot to add a pic of an important part. The 360 was bored .030. Then I put it together with an Edelbrock cam, & timing set, with cam timing advanced 4 deg. I know I will loose 500 rpm or so on the top end, but it should still be good to 4500 to 5000 rpm. Has the same Offy intake as before. I'll run the Edelbrock carb for now, plan to do something else later. The other change was an upgrade to an SM465 trans.

    Tow bar-2.JPG
Got my new (used) tow bar in the mail today from J&W Wreckers. Included the mounting hardware which was nice. I'll sand blast and paint if the tiny terrorist allow me some time alone this weekend.

Everything I've ordered for J&W came blasted and ready, I was suprised this piece did not, but oh well.

I guess thats what I get for giving away my original one thinking I didn't need it. :banghead:

Did some adjustments to the windshield wiper so I could put the windshield down, repurposed an old trailer jack to break tire beads, and got some new rubber. Not a huge difference but it'll be nice to have narrow tires again.

Noah, you should start a build thread so I can keep track of the progress easier. (y) I'm glad to see its getting the love it needs.

What do you think of these tires? I got them from a friend who had them on his XJ for a couple of weeks, then didn't like the size, so they sat in his shed for a year or so. Date code is from 2016.

they are Cooper-Mastercraft Courser AXT 30x9.5x15. On-line price is around $140 each with free shipping, I paid 70 each. I hope to get them mounted this weekend.
