I've tried to keep the overall appearance of that rig something close to stock. But the only pieces it left Toledo with are the grill, windshield frame, frame, and bare rear axle housing. I lucked out on the gauge panel and glove box door as about the time I had whittled them out, there was a class at MT State U that needed anodizing projects and they anodized them.

The trail performance of the 3B is a bit ahead of the 2012 Rubicon on 35's even though the Rubicon has a much better crawl ratio. Something about a 3.6L that is pretty much worthless below 1500-2000 rpm. I will say that the JK is much more pleasant to drive any extended distance down the highway, especially when it's hot weather.

Those SW gauges, with the exception of the speedometer, have resided there since the mid 70's without a single failure. I swapped out the original installed speedometer I had from another project (0-120 mph) for more usable 0-85 version sometime in the 80's.

One of my donor Jeeps had a couple of Stewart Warner 2-5/8" gauges, I remember liking them when I was in high school in the early 60's, so I kind of went nuts, oil pressure, oil temp (for Dana 18) water temp, vacuum, air pressure (OBA), fuel pressure (RFI), fuel level, volts all 2-5/8" , tach and speedo 3-3/8". Still have the gauges, parted out the cj6 to prep for move to Texas.

My understanding was the oil pressure and ammeter were not available from the factory, except with the Renegade package in 1970, '71 and '72. In '72, the gauges moved to the right side of the dash, below and to each side of the central cluster. In 1973, the gauges moved to the regular option list.

Thanks Timgr, my 71 has the same two holes just left of the steering column. I put an oil pressure guage an a temp sender in them.

I’m restoring the thing to as close to stock as possible and didn’t know if I should keep the gauges or fill in the holes. I like having the gauges, but still am thinking of taking them out and fill the holes. I don’t trust the gauges in the speedo, but maybe I can get them to work
