Has anybody come up with any good replacement solutions to rusted out cowl supports other than buying repros? Any pictures?

Which ones you talking about? A pic would be helpful.

Every tub I've seen has the bottom completely rusted away

Ahh, ok. The ones on the '6 project were rotted and I rebuilt them in place. I can try and get a pic tonight from the inside if interested. Repro's weren't available at that time.

    Here's what I made

I still have to clean up the edges

I don't know if I want to re-do it because it isnt exactly like the original. But if I just make another one for the other side I don't suppose it would matter

    Interesting.

The ones in my '60 look just like Nikmil's picture. Without the weld seam shown about 6 inches up.

Thank you. I built them from scratch with a vice, cutoff wheel, and welder :)

Sorry for the newb question but what is the purpose of the cowl? I cot mine off when I repaired some rust on the body but never put it back.

Mmm. It fills the gap between the windshield and the hood?

It's defined as the body between the windshield and the hood. I don't think you can easily leave it off.

Or do you mean the cowl support?

The cowl is the rounded part of the tub right behind the hood and the squared off part the windshield mounts to. The pic shown is the cowl support. Purpose of the support is to add strength to the tub sides and tie the cowl to the floor for more strength. It's common for them to rot out on the bottom where they meet the floor.

Ahhh... Ok, I do have the cowl just not the cowl support. Ill have to add it back to the tub.
