I think upgrading to the Pertronix system is a good choice but again don't be surprised to see similar spark plug readings until you have a chance to get some freeway or more constant driving at higher RPM's on the motor.........this is an Odd-Fire with uneven 90-150-90 degree spacing between firing Impulses. That in itself will have a significant effect on how the motor draws and fills cylinders especially at low RPM's.....why is it on one bank only? That's anyone's guess but typical manifold plenums do not distribute fuel evenly even in a best case environment ................tough to tune a motor between the house and the chicken coop, get it on the road!

My vote is for an EF distributor in an OF engine, or possibly an EF cap on the correct OF distributor. Not the first time that's happened, and easy to check the cap.

I am with W3srl. I would love to see a pic of the rotor and inside of the dist. cap as well as the lobes on the dist. shaft.

Rotor is correct with extended tang, distributor lobes are 3 pointed lobes, 3 broadly rounded ones. Wrong cap came from Napa, ordered other one, should be here today. It amazes me that when I had this engine years ago in a Commando that I never got the wrong parts. I never knew that there was such a plethora of different Delco distributors. Definitely think this whole confusion was just a bad combination of parts. Again I'd like to say thanks to everybody for all your ideas and help.

Got correct distributor cap on the chicken feed hauler and now it runs like an animal! Whoo hoo! It's now smooth as...well, smooth as an oddfire can be, and the power is great!

I've been having this same issue, now I'm wondering if NAPA gave me the wrong cap last year. The right bank keeps fouling plugs.

That was exactly my problem. I wound up having to order the different caps listed and try them. When I got the right one, it was incredible. Thanks to everyone here for posting the Napa site and for all the help. :p:v6:

Can you share the correct part number for jeepfreak?

The correct cap for mine was Napa #RR189 and the rotor was RR185. The other cap to fit a Delco distributor was part number RR184. I hope this helps. I think there may be another cap available also but I think it is a prestolite distributor application.

I had the same problem and when i tapped lightly on top or side of the carb it would straiten out a short time so iran some led suplement or such and have no problems since. if you look down throuh the throut on the single brl the carb should spray both sides of the intake. after a few bottles my 225 has run like a raped ape. PS carefull changing parts on the 225 check buick 225 v6 forum.

Ok now how do I figure it out, I have the RR 184 on my jeep, right bank running rich, same as you had. But I do not know if it's a Delco distributor or not

The cap shown in your pic is a Delco. It has the "window" for fine adjusting the points. The Prestolite does not have this. I can't remember if they can be swapped. If so that would be a place to start. You might look with a flashlight and mirror and see if there is a tag on the distributor body that would help with id.

For the 12 bucks or so, I'd get the rr189 cap and try it. If it doesn't work, clean her back up and return it.

Just a side note...the numbers stamped in my distributor claim it is for a 455! I guess the distributor body is the same, just all thrown in the same bin at the rebuilders. Don't trust the numbers 100 percent!
