Is it possible to (successfully) remove and replace the timing cover without dropping the oil pan? I need to replace the front seal and hadn't planned on dropping the pan, but thought I'd ask before I tore into it tomorrow..

I think there might be some alignment pins between the timing cover and oil pan. Been a while since I had one apart.

I seem to think that it was not possible, but Its also been a long time since I took one apart too. I can't remember why I could not pull it without dropping the pan. I could be wrong. Internet correct me in 3..2..1...GO!

I don't believe there is, based only on pictures I've found while searching..

IIRC the gasket is one piece on the pan and gets ruined if you just remove the timing cover.

  6. 47v6 is right I did it when I changed my seal.. yes you can remove timing cover without dropping pan but then you ruin the gasket for the front of the oil pan. I knew all this when I tried and just tried cleaning and silicone it good but I failed and now I have an oil leak that I might fix this weekend by dropping oil pan and replacing the gasket. At least the pan is easy to pull.

YEah I know it'll destroy the front of the oil pan gasket..I've done it on many other engines, just not the 134. Thanks!
