So is it true that the dauntless used a delco distributor up to 67 then switched to a prestolite? I found several references to that being the case. I have what I believe is a 67 that has the delco and a motor/trans combo that I was told was a 69 which has the prestolite so the would fit.

Trying to add up the evidence that my new project is a 67. No marker lite on fenders tank under the seat etc

Serial number 242xxx seems to be in ballpark.

My '71 delivered from the factory with a Prestolite. A lot of folks here have removed the Prestolite in favor of the Delco with a Pertronix conversion or an HEI. I went the Delco/ Pertronix route.

Mine originally had the prestolite, switched to the Delco in1978. It now has HEI. The Delco and prestolite are interchangeable as far as I remember.

Correct... The HEI requires slight grinding or replacement of the adjacent manifold bolt for clearance.

My '70 came with Prestolite, but dad's '69 is Delco.

My 69 was a Delco. It was probably a left over 68 because there were no marker lights or reflectors

The motors sourced from GM had the Delco distributor and starter.
The later ones from Jeep production had a different color paint on the block,
    Prestolite starter and distributor.

Yeah whats the story on that??? When I went to get cap rotor etc etc today the guy asked which. He showed me the points on the computer and when I pointed to which ones mine had he said "that says high performance motor"

wasnt aware are there was a high performance version of the dauntless???

    This is the GM-sourced motor

The later ones are from what I remember a dark green.

Best picture I have showing the color. This one is a 1970 Commando.
The other way to tell the GM-sourced from the later ones--

The GM-sourced have a diipstick tube and a rather long dipstick. End of dipstick extends above the valve cover.
The later ones have a dipstick that goes directly into the block, no tube.
