What springs and amount of lift are they? Sorry, too lazy to go back and look.

 

Thanks guys... The springs are Rubicon Express 2.5in lift YJ. They're not heavy duty, just normal. I've upgraded the bushings to greasable with 9/16ths bolts.. A little trimming of useless sheet metal and 37s fit...

 

There is an 8274 sitting on the front now...

 

I've been on vacation lately, but I've been getting stuff done... I took a serious look at things and started welding up the shock mounts.



I've got the lower front started and just need to get some tube bent for a hoop for the uppers.



One of my welds needs to be fixed up, but I like these alot. They gusset the knuckle pretty good and keep the mount low.

 

And I also got the front bumper bolted on... It was twisted and broken and all kinds of ugly. The shackle mounts were welded to the front, were the green primer is. To straighten the bumper I layed it on the shop floor and rolled the back tire of the Jeep onto it. Then I heated it up with the rosebud tip on the torch. Then I used a piece of railroad iron about 20 inches long and pounded it straight. It was pretty brutal. Then I opened up the cracks and laid a good bead in. I figgered since that bumper lasted all these years I might as well keep it around. Thanks for checking it out. Laters.

 

Love love love the shock mounts.

I love when people make the shock mounts parallel to the axle on their flexy rigs and are confused when their lower shock eyes break off.

 

Jon, Looks good.........are you going to use the inverted T steering TRE? or are you going to flat top those knuckles?

 

I have the inverted T from RuffStuff. There isn't enough room for a high steer in there... The tie rod and draglink are 1.5in Dom 1/4in wall... Should be stout enough... Thanks guys

That's a Nostalgia Steering Column from Speedway Motors and an 8274 mount off EBay. I decided to use all new steering components so nothing is gonna be patched together and boogered up... The wheel is 15in and the column has a quick release. It should make a little more room for me... Eventually as the budget allows I'll upgrade to some nice Corbeau seats. When that happens I'll be cutting the wheel wells like every other Jeep...
Right now I'm trying to balance building the Jeep so I'm happy with it when I'm done with making so much work that it'll never be done. I can compromise on seats for now, but it will have lockers before I drive it. That kinda stuff...

 

Rail road tie sections are awesome to straighten metal.

Vacation was good. I got to spend a lot of time with my wife, and since it was her birthday while I was off, it was good. Back to work though...

 

I found something fun on EBay the other day... A couple of 31 Spline Detroit Lockers. Used a couple times by a race team and changed out for new. I picked them up for less than half price...



Stuck one of the tail lights on there for kicks... They need all new innards in them so I'll be putting LEDs in there for maximum brightness...

 

Here is a quick update shot of the winch mount and front bumper... I've been working graveyards on 12hr shifts, so not much Jeep work has been getting done. A buddy was asking me what was taking so long the other day... Like I told him, this project is a luxury. I'm not gonna take away from my wife and daughter just to build a Jeep. I remember reading Hot Rod magazine articles when I was a kid and guys would talk about how they lost their wife and 3 girlfriends to build a Camaro or Mustang. No thank you. My spare time right now is spent with my wife and kiddo. Plus, I'm not using credit cards either. Anyway, in July I'll be off the graveyard shift. This weekend we're going on a wheelin trip through the High Rock Canyon near the Black Rock Desert in Northwestern Nevada. Whoo hoo!!! Thanks for checking it out. Laters

I have started a group here in Yreka called DLC Offroad. It's a bunch of people from the Decision Life Church that enjoy the outdoors and offloading... Anyway, I led a group of 13 vehicles on this trip... 3 Toyotas, a Dodge, my Chevy, and the rest Jeeps... Most of the Jeeps were TJs. We had an awesome time and can't wait to go back...
