That's a good yellow. I like it. Was it a regular color in that year? It's always been a fleet color, AFAIK.

All of my research indicates it was. I'm the second owner, was never repainted.

It is a 1950 Kellogg American. Bought it out of the RCBS reloading plant in Oroville as surplus. They had 4 of these and were stacked 4 high and bolted together with expanded sheet metal covers. I used my cover for a project.

Well, it could be a factory paint job and be a fleet color, and have been owned by an individual. Jeep had two lists of colors, the regular colors that changed from year to year (and followed fashion) and the fleet colors that included Omaha Orange, Transport Yellow, Black, White, GSA Gray, etc. The dealership could order any of these colors by writing in the color code on the order form - you did not have to be a fleet buyer to get a fleet color.

Thanks for the info. The PO special ordered this one from Pahl-Goodhue Ford-Jeep in Oroville, and he told me wanted this color so he couldn't loose it in the woods, so that makes sense. PTO winch was dealer added before delivery. At one time he showed me the original bill of sale, total was $3750, which was a lot of money in 1957.

Transport Yellow aka School Bus Yellow has been renamed & reused for many years by the likes of Dupont , Ditzler PPG and others.

Winches could be ordered for delivery with the Jeep, but it was not a good idea - good chance they would be stolen in transit. The dealerships do a better job of installing accessories anyway...

$3750 was a lot for a car in 1957. For comparison, my new and loaded '73 CJ-5 was $4400, including Kayline top, roll bar and Warn hubs. The other car I was considering was a new BMW 2002tii, same money.

Busy day, body is bolted down. Radiator and fan shroud are prepped and ready to paint. Polished the headlight trim rings, washed the headlight buckets. Hoping to have it ready to assemble by end of day tomorrow.

Any chance you could send a few good pics of the winch frame? I just bought a Ramsey and have to make the frame. Howard was kind enough to show some drawings and pics he had on this thread Ramsey Pto Winch 246r but I'm not sure if those measurements were the true factory install frame or not. And since yours is original factory, using is to verify the drawings from Howard would be great. More info I have to start, the better off I'll be when creating mine. Would be greatly appreciated.

    Fascinating work.
When do you plan to drive it and make photos or movie?

If I can stay focused and continue at my current pace, I'm trying for late March.

Make sure that square head plug on the top of the winch is a venting plug. That's what it came with originally. Here is an example: Vented & Magnetic Pipe Plugs || Seaway Bolt & Specials Corp. Its the "Square Head Pipe Plug with Breather Vent and Bronze Insert"
