Oh, the tires were rubbing the body at full flex with the 15x6 steelies, so I put some 15x8white wagons on. No more rubbing. I like old wide steelies, but have yet to find really nice ones, so el cheapie white wagons it is. It now has more of a 70s era look I guess.

Over the weekend I got the Jeep running for the first time in over 4 (probably over 5+) years. My Dad was in town for the 4th so we installed a DUI and a new fuel pump and she started right up. I've got to get caught up on my maintenance items and then I'll submit a proper update.

i'm impressed that your "6" pulled that 8n. must weigh close to what the "6" does. and on a single axle trailer, to boot.

The tractor is 2800, trailer is just over 1000#. The CJ-6 is 4100. Almost even! With the tires near the back of body, and the extra 20 inches of wheelbase, the Jeep tows really well.

If you look back a ways there's pix of the Willy's towing a skid steer on my tandem axle trailer.

Made some more frame boxing plates and got them welded in.

Started working on building a rear bumper. It's 4x3 tubing .188 thick

Got the ends capped but ran out of time to get the middle section closed up.

Looking forward to finishing the frame boxing, for no other reason then it's a pain making all the plates. They just eat up hours cutting those things out.

  9. I am knocking the rust off the driver side rocker overlay on the 67 Commando. Waiting on the compressor to catch up. Then back to it, Of course, camera is at home. It'll have to be AM pics of the aftermath!

What I did to my Jeep was bought it a companion. Good to always be thinking ahead, so next logical step once I finish my '68 rebuild is to start on a '69, right? Picked up this very rust free and mostly original '69 CJ5 225 V6 for a good deal. Stay tuned for a build thread, but I have to finish my '68 first otherwise neither one is likely to ever get finished!

    As it sits today...

Thinking to build it like this, but not sure yet...

  11. Aftermath pics of the 67 Commando's rocker. I was basically just doing a quickie to see how solid the rocker overlay was under the paint.

Cleaned the inside replacement floor and discovered I needed to weld the seams (as well as a few holes I made with my small needle scaler).

It appears this whole rig was stripped to bare metal, the yellow paint flies off easy and there is no factory paint under it. Guess that is why the rust spots are bleeding out everywhere all over this patina rig! Improper prep before paint! This yellow is hard to match, but at least I am looking at less rust now!

  12. Last night, I pulled the heads off the Dauntless that came out of the 69 rust test Commando.

    That's the good side.

I had compression in five out of six cranking it over on the engine hoist before I mounted it onto the engine stand.

Other side's center cylinder took on a little water.

    And a close shot:

See how that looks when I get the piston out.

In other news, I replaced the transformer in my SERVICE sign last night, so it is hanging up and out of harms way once again!

Its a small thing bolting on 4 snubbers and 4 shocks. When its permanent and you actually feel like the project is in forward motion, there might be light off in the distance...

Lake Oroville at Nelson's Bar. Concow is only 7 miles from there though.

Chassis looking good Rich., what kind of coating is that on the frame? In other news I'm coveting those exhaust manifolds, don't like my headers.

Thanks for the compliments. Honestly I Dont know. A year or so ago it was sand blasted then coated in epoxy primer. After I did all the mods he scuffed it up and primed it again. I gave him free reign on the paint. He said its " chassis black".

The passenger manifold is stock Dauntless. The drivers 77 Skylark, found it on partmyride. They are getting scarce and a little dear$$. Know what you mean about the headers, 3 sets in the rafters here....
