Today I replaced the rubber hose from the fuel pump to the carb with a hard line (on a '68 cj5).

Took off the spare tire carrier for another foot of room in the garage over the winter. When I do it I always love how the back of the Jeep looks.

Also, I don't know if this counts, but I had a bad dream that my carb gasket kept going bad under my 2g, even though I blocked off the ports under the carb.

27.5 degrees I will check what I have next work session. Stuff goes out the key board before my brain is fully engaged. The internet has made me lazy.

Making progress on my Saginaw conversion a little bit everyday. Doing a trial fit-up yesterday and this evening, I have become concerned the tie rod is too close to the springs. Soooo...I placed an order to goferit for a tie rod flip kit.

I came home from work and my son CJ (the 14 year old one with the 57 CJ5) said to me "Dad, the Jeep carb (Solex) was dripping, so I made new gaskets for it from a pizza box". He watched me make some thermostat gaskets and such a few times and has seen me rebuild other carbs and took of his carb and applied what he learned. I'm pretty proud of him. It runs great still and doesn't leak a drop.

  10. Reminds me of me at 14. I use to pickup almost every lawnmower that was in the trash. I'd try to get them to function as a mower again by swapping parts/engines/carbs and always pulled the heads off to clean out the combustion area. I'd re-use the head gaskets most of the time. But I made a lot of cardboard gaskets for carbs and such. Back then the way to peddle them was a local Tradin' Times Classified for 1.80 on a two-line ad.

One beginning of spring I had 6 mowers which all started within 2 pulls so I ran my ad. Second call was an apartment complex guy which was only a few miles from the house. He bought all 5 of the rotary mowers and passed on the 5HP rell mower commenting his mowers never started that easy (this is back when a handful of landscaping companies only serviced huge corporate locations). Biggest sale in my young life at that time. 5 x 35 is 175. He asked for 5 bucks off and I readily agreed to have my hands on 170 bucks at 14!:bananatool:

That's exactly how I started out with internal combustion engines. had a pile of old mowers from people's front yards. (some were even out front for scrap)

Today I got all the details of the tie rod flip worked out and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on my Saginaw conversion.

Of course I am still in the fit-up process, but I can breathe a little easier now that I can see it will work.

No chance of interfering with the springs now. Well done.

With some help from Donny, I was able to scrape together a matching set of steelies. After some powder coat, mounting and balancing, the '69 has some new socks and shoes today...

Clearly still some work to do, but progress toward the goal at least...a bit of an ECJ5 menu bar tribute Jeep such as below...

scraped my right pinky knuckle taking out the top bolt of the starter on the v6 as part of r&r the rt rear leaking freeze plug. Made a note to my self that body panels are sharp as the flange on the left rear of radiator. While I was at it found the heat riser had seized. Some penetrant and tapping with lfh opened it up. Now stuck in that position, I'll start working it loose with some kroil.
After filling it with water I took my bride for a cruise on the property to warm it up. No leaks! Drain tomorrow and back flush then new antifreeze and onto the next project. Likely to be the steering box sector shaft rebuild, but not before I run her thru the coin op car wash to decrustify years of grease and dirt.
Tires high on the list. thinking coker sta traxion or maybe super swampers or destone traction
