Gauges That Actually Work

    Good morning folks,
I have never actually had a Jeep that the gauges worked on, unless they were aftermarket round gauges. I have been fooling with my temp and fuel gauges, which were new from rugged ridge. The sending unit is new, from Walcks. The sending unit reads 10 to 71 ohms resistance, so I assume that is good. The new gauges have 3 studs, one strapped to the other. Power. One to sending unit, other to ground I guess. The fuel will move but not in response to the sender arm position. How do I test just the gauge? Are they all crap, as the reviews seem to indicate? Should I just use a stick for gas and round gauges for the rest? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The sending unit has to be grounded, are you checking it with it grounded?

I always wonder when someone is talking about replacement water/fuel gauges
are you changing them or did they come with a newer cluster
most of the replacement gauges swing the wrong way compared to stock set up
don't know if this is a problem or not . just asking
changed my cluster way back in 85 . still works as it should with 89K on clock

there's a guy on ebay that sells NOS gauges

The fuel gauge should have three studs, the temp two.

Make sure the gauges are properly grounded to the cluster case & the case is properly grounded to the dash/body.

    Have you read this?

Pull the stock speedometer out and cut the dash for an M38A1 gauge cluster. :D

My guess is the issue is the source, Rugged Ridge. I may be mistaken, but I think this brand is under the Omix brand. Rugged Ridge is fine for HD shackles, but I won't buy most of their products.
I have bought old-stock individual gauges for the cluster (still in Willys boxes) and they have worked flawlessly for over a decade now. Just be sure you buy the correct part number; they come 6V and 12V!

I know. Hopefully the Willys Picnic will be on this year, and the Coronavirus will be done. I will try to get some new old gauges there.
