Anyone Bought A New Tub Lately?

red61cj5 Just fell off the turnip truck!

I have decided that my tub is too far gone, at least for the direction this project has taken (medium nice restoration) I'll save it for a future off road project, where appearance is less important. Anyway, I am looking at Willys Overland's "fixed" tubs. I know they are all from the same place, but he claims his are "ready to install". I know they had a lot of problems years ago, but have heard quality has gone way up in last 4-5 years. Any experiences?

I watched their video on how they fix everything. Did you price their revamped tub vs non?

I have an md Juan build I’ve been working on. Great progress so far no complaints. Needed various fire wall holes drilled but I do like that it was almost a blank slate I could match off my old tub.

Bought a MD Juan M38A1 tub, blank slate all around without any mounting or firewall holes, accuracy from a distance is ok. This maps to my resto-mod but may not be for someone who is not willing to live with “close” but not original.

The price difference between $2k for a blank tub from C&C Surplus and a WO tub is pretty significant. I know he works them over, but with all the use, abuse, and modifications these old Jeeps see, I felt it better to match the holes to what I had then let someone do a generic template and hope it fits. And my new soft top fit great.

I agree I did the same. Matched and measured my old tub and transferred it over to the blank md. Everything worked out great after. I went with a hard top also.

The structures are all located pretty close to my old tub ( one exception is the Riser under the firewall on driver’s side - it is outboard about an inch, so it misses resting on top of frame).
The seams near the cowl were roughly welded - easy fix, some of the curves in the body are not as uniform (the radius) - likely not fixing, all basic locations appear good (have not yet mounted my bows or top but appears to not be any issue)
Was able to line up the tub and do the body mount holes without issue.

that dosent sound too bad then for those of us that cant do body stuff or dont have the space this may be a decent solution
    Thanks

I did a MD Juan for a 3A build. Got the complete kit, nothing fit the tub except the tailgate. The fenders, windshield and hood totally sucked. Ended up sourcing other ones. Complained to MD Juan and at first they seemed helpful then quit responding. The tub was alright though.

How long ago was that? They were on here & the other cj boards (7-8 years ago?) looking for feedback on improving their products.

Badgoat, did you purchase your tub fron c&c? I saw tubs from them for sale when doing a google search, but was sketched out by the $1800 cheaper price over reputable companies like Kaiser willys. We all know that md juan is the only company making these tubs, but I don't understand how they can sell them for so much cheaper. Maybe they bought out a distributor that went out of business?

I did get mine from C&C. Near as I can tell they get them direct from MD Juan instead of buying through a distributor like Omix-Ada so can take a lower markup. When I talked to C&C he said they get regular shipments in and usually have them in stock.
