Rear Ride Height???

For my '69 Jeep restore: Day before yesterday I put the tub back on the chassis. One issue though, the rear seems too high. Reminiscent of HD springs. These are the original springs which I restored and the Jeep didn't sit like this before. The only thing I can figure is perhaps I didn't leaf spring clamp/thingamagigs in the right spots (they were loose and slid all the way down to the axle orginally), or bound them up too tight. Advice needed...

You might try loosening and re-tightening your shackle bolts at ride height to see if it helps. If they were torqued at full droop, they could be resisting movement.

 

Looks like there is to much arch in the springs ?? Did you hammer the springs while you
had them off ? Not sure if the spring clamps went around the bottom leaves or not.

 

They're only slighty snug so they do indeed move. If I push down, it returns to the same height...

That's what I'm thinking, but why? Are those clamps incorrectly positioned?

Not that then. It could well be your clamps are tight enough to keep the leaves from sliding against each other.

 

Spare tire, gas, seats, roll bar... that stuff adds up. Maybe it’ll settle down by the time everything is done.

As both tcfeet and you noted above, I think the arch of the springs is what's causing the higher tub height.

As a rough indication of the springs' arch, take a look at the angle of your shackles, and compare them to mine below, which are on the original (unrestored, non re-arched) leaf springs:

No hammering. They all came apart no problem... They're both the same for what it's worth and she sits level, just high...

Your shackles do indeed have more angle in 'em. Can you snap a photo of your clamps and where they are?

My guess is that it will settle down once you have fuel, seats, etc. also, in your first picture it looks like there are tensioned straps holding the tub - is the full weight of the tub resting on the frame?
