I’ve been using one of these 12v units for years…

I keep an old battery in the shop just to run it when I’m not in the field, but the bearings (bushings?) are failing in it, so I want to keep it for emergency field use only until I feel like buying another one.

I stopped by the tool store this morning and grabbed a 1/4” to 1/8” collet reducer, so now I can run the sharpening bits in my air-powered die grinder.

Oh, the things that bring us joy as we get older.

How will you ensure that the grinder references properly? I've liked my granberg sharpener, and have considered getting the electric version.

I guess I take for granted that I’ve been hand-sharpening stuff for most of my life. It’s just sorta muscle memory combined with watching how high or low the cut is to get a good edge on top. I follow the angle that is etched into each tooth (30°).

I've tried 'em all. I can do better by eye.

But they say it takes five years to learn how to sharpen a chainsaw correctly. And another five to get good at it.

I sharpen mine by hand, but have to find a better grade of file. The Oregon ones from the True Value hardware are as soft as butter, just dont last.

Started in Japan, mostly American made now. When I was a kid, my dad had (has?) the 610 EVL, one of their “evil twins.” A 2-cyl saw that fired both cylinders at the same time. Huge torque and sooo smooth/vibration free. The old ad campaigns would run the saw from idle to wide open with a glass of water on the top and it wouldn’t spill a drop.

Ran 5 tanks thru my little stihl last two days. Elbow sore (tennis elbow)?

Climbed our crepe myrtles and trimmed the top 20+ feet out of them. 4 years of redwood leaves in the flower beds. Bushes all hedged…

one dump truck load already to the green waste facility, one loaded, will finish loading tomorrow, have to saw all the branches into shorter pieces then stomp em down to get more space in the dump bed.

I hand file when they are not too dull but if i have to take off a bunch i go for the dremel tool. i just use cheap chinese stones. They wear out quick and tend to snap off but if you are careful they do ok. I just picked up an 026 somebody had out on a free pile. My new favorite saw

FWIW, I hate this file size, pico junk in 5/32, but it's easy around the house, and good at cutting tree roots. I save the 7/32s stuff for the bigger tree killers and my bucket limbing saw.

I did get some bigger kerf pro chain loops without the dang anti-kick pre-raker-rakes for the pico saw that I'm hoping solve the home-user-saw-hate-pico-so-much problem.

Anyone else use the custom cut handles? This one is either cherry wood, or may be apricot.
