I am looking to add the small fold up safety steps to assist in entry on the side of my 1956 Willys Jeep CJ5. These steps are the small loop type step that flips up to be out of the way and down to step on. Looking for photos of previous installs of this sort and/or recommendations for the location of the step on the side of the tub and backing plate on the inside of the jeep wall.

    Those are $$$$!
It looks hokey, but I bolted a short piece of chain on mine. With my current mobility issues, it gives me just enough boost to get my sorry *** into the Jeep. Cost, free ( I had some chain and bolts laying around) modifications, none, (used the factory step bolt holes).

The ugly part about folding steps is reaching them when inside the cab.

I made a step that hooks and hangs off of the door opening for the passenger of my TJ jeep, they can pull the step up and into the jeep when they are in, and drop it back down again to help exiting. I wanted something that wouldn't get hung up on rocks, so making it easily removable worked. I'll snap some photos of it. it works great, the only thing is that you need to have a place to put it when it's inside the vehicle.

Years ago, I had an old friend that needed an assist step to get into his old CJ5. I ended up cutting about a 3” wide strip off a truck mudflap and bolting it under the floorpan in approximately the original side step location. It was still functioning a few years after when he sold the Jeep. Conveyor belt material would probably work too.
