Joined the forum last year when we inherited the family CJ5. My grandfather purchased it from a college grounds crew in 1960 and it's been in the family since. Used for mowing and chores on the family farm in WV, then my father had it for several years and we got it running again, now my family uses it on our land in southwestern Virginia.

It runs great and we use it a lot. I've been doing some basic overlooked maintenance and making some upgrades as we go. It's also an opportunity for me to learn more about mechanics and auto maintenance, which I'm very new to. Going to use this thread to mark progress and, more frequently, ask questions of the experts here.

Always good to see a Jeep being used as a Jeep :)

Love doing that! It bangs around a bit though, and have to disconnect the windshield wiper. Need to figure that out better.

You can get reproduction tie-down straps from Kaiser Willys that are actually good quality: https://www.kaiserwillys.com/produc...-hold-down-strap-black-fits-55-71-cj-5-m38a1/

    Strapped down:

When not is use, you thread it through the footman loop behind the mirror and hook it back to itself for storage. You can kind-of see it in this picture:
