[IMG] [IMG] Bought this Frankenstein jeep for 900 bucks yesterday. Never worked on jeeps before so forgive my naivety. Previous owner says it’s a ‘70. Looks to have a Chevy 4.3l v6 motor it it. I’m having trouble IDing the transmission and transfer case. Whoever owned this jeep before went to town on it with a stick welder trying to make this motor/transmission combo work And has Jerry rigged the entire thing. I feel overwhelmed realizing how big of a project this actually and because I don’t really have the shop/ tools for frame off job. Should I leave it how it is and see if I can get the motor running or try to fix this complete hack job? Anyone know what transmission or transfer case this is? advice on the build would be much appreciated. See pics for reference. Looks like original dana 20 but not totally sure. Also has original Dana 27 front and 44 rear.

Welcome to the forum. It doesn't get any better than here for answers regarding pre 76 Jeeps. But as Doug inferred, we will need some photos. A 70 would have had a Dana 18 originally and, if built later in the year, would have the highly desirable flanged 30 spline rear axle shafts.

best case is to ALWAYS get it running and driving.
you say you never worked on jeeps before, have you worked on other cars? same logic applies to jeeps.

many people tear them apart for a rebuild and then end up trying to sell a pile of disassembled parts.

and times 3 on not seeing pics.
