11" bendix self adjusting brake backing plate - Anyone tried to convert a non-parking brake backing plate to one that will accept and function with a parking brake cable? is there any difference other than the parking brake cable access. As you might guess, I have some 'front' style, non-parking brake plates sitting on the shelf, and wondering if its worth trying to use them on the rear of the CJ - but as I don't have/want a D18 drum, looking for a way to put the brake on the rear drums.

I looked at doing this a few years back and hacked up a plate and wasn’t able to figure it out where it would work. I ended up going to disc brakes. I also looked at using backing plates off a Chevy Dana 44 and drilling new holes to make them to fit, but never got around to doing it.

The backing plates with the cable provision have a raised area (it would be an indentation if viewed from the brake drum side) with a hole at an angle. I think this would be pretty problematic to try to make your own.

I've done it but on 10" trailer brakes, not benxix 11's.

I hacked an appropriately sized/shaped hole for the cable to come in at an angle, welded a washer with the right sized hole to retain the cable clip fingers & covered it over with some heavy sheet metal.

It looked like S*** but it worked.

DiggerG over on the Old Willys forum suggested cutting the cable opening out of the old plate, making a matching cut on the front plate and welding it in. I thought about it but located used Bendix plates on eBay for $100 with all of the hardware intact (most of it got replaced anyway).
