Another seat question. The last one, I promise.

    I got my used stock seats today. Pulled the aftermarket seats and brackets and layed in the new seats and bracks. The fronts lined up with existing holes but the rear for the drivers side did not. I guess I am just going to drill it out and bolt it down with grade eight and big washers. I am having a little trouble figuring out the passenger seat. Bolting down the front is easy, but I don't see how the rear is secured at all. It seems like it will just tumble forward in an accident. Is there anything in a stock setup that prevents it from tumbling forward? PICs would be great, becauce whatever it is, I will have to make it. Thanks.

    The seats you took out look pretty nice themselves, what are you plans for them? selling?

    I would be happy to sell them and the custom mount that makes them. Shipping would be very expensive. I cost about $150 to get the low back seats shipped to me and my seats are twice as heavy. Make me an offer if you want them, but except shipping to be at least $200. Not sure they are worth it at that point.

    all that holds the pass seat from flipping forward is the seatbelt -- you are seated on the seat, seatbelt bolts to the floor on either side, going around both your passenger and the seat.

    I had the same problem with my 74. I took 2x4 tubing and constructed a box with some angle on the inside. Bolted it the floor and added two small pieces of angle along front top for pivot points and a piece of bent 3/8" round bar for a snag for rear of seat release. It raised the seat off the floor and gave me a 4" deep storage for tools, chains and such.

    Ok, thanks. I was looking at the latch that allows if to fold onto itself and it looked like there was some type of hook or loop that should mount to the floor to keep it from tumbling. Otherwise it would tumble forward during eratic driving if no one is in it.

    Maybe an eye bolt through the tub could be used and would be simple to do.

    My 70 came with a latch that holds it to the floor, it look a lot lik the one that let the seet back fold. On the floor is a bracket the is held down with 4, 1/4" bolts it has a u shaped hook.

    Could I get a PIC of that bracket that mounts to the floor? My seat has the hook, I just don't have the part that mounts to the floor. Thanks.

    IIRC the intermediates have an eye bolt that screws into the floor. The end of the latch goes through the eye. If you have the original body, look at the floor and see if the threaded hole is there. I think I have one, somewhere ... I'll look when I get home.

    Thanks. I can see no original holes. He plugged them and then sprayed on a bedliner.

    Should be visible from underneath, I'd think - unless the underside is sprayed too.

    Thank you. That looks like it will be very easy to recreate. It also has a nice view of the seat belts, that I needed.

    Don't get to excited about the seat belts. They are in the right place, but the PO but in blue belts from a GM product. I am still trying to run down some OE belts. I have a pair of belts that match what came in a P/UP or Comando (I think) but I don't think they are correct for a CJ. Don't mean to highjack the thread, but if anyone has any info or pic's of a correct belt, I would be grateful.

    I thought those belts looked just like some 70's Chevy belts.

    I scored these from Kiowamtp for a helluva deal, but I have no idear what they're out of, or the vintage. Once I get 'em rechromed they'll be fine for me.

    Do you think using just washers between the tub and the nut is good enough for seats and seatbelts. I was thinking some 4" x 4" steel with a whole drilled in the center. Maybe 1/8 or 1/4" thick. Is that overkill and not worth the effort and cost?

    Can't see where that would hurt. Big thick washers would probably be enough, but anything to prevent the bolts from pulling through the floor would be a good thing, IMO. Of course, if you hit anything hard enough to do that you'll have plenty of other problems to worry about.

    Sounds like overkill to me. The attached pic is of the seatbelt mount that in on the front panel of the rear wheelhouse. A small plate, 2 7/8" across and maybe a 1/16" thick at most, is all the factory put in. Sounds like a large washer would do the trick.
