I just picked up a couple of original seats for my CJ5 and of course they're in pretty bad condition. I was pretty happy to find them anyway. Does anyone know of a company that sells a kit so I can reupholster them?

Be aware that the one Mike posted is NOT a direct replacement for an Early. You will have to have some work done to it to make it fit.

    Is too a direct replacement...

    For a "late-early" anyway...:)

That kit will work for lowback seats roughly 1965 and up, where the seats have foam and not springs, and the passenger seat folds and tumbles and the seat frames are exterior to the foam and upholstery.

If your seats are the pre '65 versions like this...

...where the fabric wraps around the frame then Bill is correct.

The seat covers I got for my 67 and 71 were made of BLACK LEATHERETTE VYNIL FOR SEATS....I was asked if I needed the foam or if they were spring type cushions...anyhow I had Kathy look up the price just for the front set which is four COVERS with foam was 85.00 ...I also got a complete set which made 6 covers totaled 125.00 to my door...
Kathy does all the CANVAS seats for me...

Bottom line is Boyink is correct ............

Do the seats have springs under the cushions, that are attached to the seat frames, or foam cushions? If they have the springs, you can get kits for those from Beachwood Canvas, bring lots of money.

I know there has been debate on this before but I have a 65 with the original seats and they are the early type with the springs and the seat cover wraps arround the seat frame. I think the change was after 65.

Just another note I read Mikes link . I as well as Billy bought my seat covers from Ron Varner. BEWARE he does not have a good reputation on this board I had a lot of trouble getting my covers after I paid IIRC it took almost 2 months. There was a post awhile back try doing a search . I think it was Pilot Mike that paid and never got his covers. I will say the quality was excellent.

Mine took about two months, but I am very happy with them.

Captain CJ, are your seats like this? And you got those covers from that Ron Varner feller that sells 'em on Epay?

Same question...are the covers you guys are talking about for the springed seats I posted, or for the next generation foam seats?????

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I think I skip the guy with the bad rep.

The seats I picked up have the springs. One isn't too bad but the other I had to strip. I can probably do a decent job on it but a kit would make it easier.

How well did it work? Was there enough padding to cover the springs, or did you have to add some? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative than the kits from Beachwood Canvas.
