T-14 Question

Does anybody know if an input shaft from an early T-14, used with the Dauntless, can be installed in the later T-14's used with the I6 258? If not, then what makes the two transmissions different gear wise? Is the case/bellhousing (or adapter) bolt pattern on the later model T-14 the same as the earlier ones?

    TIA

They are identical except for that input shaft, which last time I priced a new one plus the gears it meshes to, it was in excess of $500 for those parts.

On one hand I could spend over $500 in parts to rebuild my shot and trashed 3-speed or I could get a cheap SM420 and spend that $500 on a tcase adapter.

I did the latter. It's not all back in the jeep yet, but I expect I will be pleased.

oops, my bad, the spline count on the output shaft is different too...

You'd either have to replace the output shaft as well or replace the bull gear in the tcase to a 6-spline.

    Forgot to mention that earlier.

Thank's DJ for the input. I was asking this because a buddy of mine just picked up a '69 5 with a nasty sounding T-14. He has a '73 t-14 from behind the 258 laying around. Would he have to replace more than the input shaft or are the gears the same inside both transmissions? I figured the output shafts would be different but a new bull gear would solve that I think. The 420 is certainly a good alternate but more $ than if he could combine the two 14's.

If the t14 is just growling real loud the problem is the bearings not the gears.

I recall reading some where that the ratios are different (ie: the I6 has a slightly higher 2nd, the rest are the same). but I can't recall where.

Actually, the output spline count for the I-6 and V-6 is the same, 10.
You're correct about the input being different. They will interchange no problem. Nickmil

Meant to say the input gear will interchange no problem.

Gears are the same and so is the output shaft. Nickmil
