Chia's lack of a build

Well yeah I have not worked on Chia as much as some of you all have worked on your Jeeps but don't you fear I will.
When I found him he looked like a brush pile

Unfortunitly I don't have the pics from the middle of the buildup for some reason but here are some more recent pics.

This is after rebuilding the body that while it looked OK in the pics was just trashed cleaning up the frame putting new axles under Chia with a new suspension and new wheels and tires. I am in limbo right now because of a lack of a rad and no way to put the motor in( shoulda thought about that before I got him).

    Sledgehammer Sure, I'll try it

Yeah, even those 4cyl's are heavy. At least the one I tried to pick up was. :)

Look closely to the bed area and then realize the rear tire was not under inflated R)

The motor problem is actually because of a lack of space to have a level jeep. There is no place in my yard or garage that is near level.

OMG if that JEEP ever drives again I think you will have the greatest rebuild story of all time. I haven't been around long enough to know how yours got its name. Now I know.

How did you find it? Was it in the family, or was it advertised for sale? (I'd be interested to know how that ad read!)

Do you have two trees about 6' apart? Sling a couple of log chains betwix them and ratchet that engine up about 4' with a power pull or chain hoist. Roll the bare nekkit chassis underneath and drop 'er down into place. Don't do it on a windy day or the engine will be swinging and jumping around like a pinya...piniat...one of those paper mache critters full of candy.

Or erect a big tee-pee tripod of stout poles (or some of those trees I see in the neighbors yard) and do the same trick with the power pull. Have your insurance paid up and have your assistant dial 9 and 1 with a finger poised over the 1 button.

I did the exact opposite... My engine was sitting on a dolly. I disconnected the front axle leaf springs and moved the axle out of the way, lifted the front of the frame over the engine, lowered it to get the mounts lined up, then lifted it back up and got the axle back under. Worked great.

Nope the PO was a truck driver for my Dad. He knew I had been looking for a VW bug to make into a Baja bug but unfortunitly I just could not find a good candidate around here. He mentioned to my Dad he had an old Jeep and wondered would I be interested. We pulled up to its hiding place and he said I think it is under that pile of weeds.

Man, you're a danged genius. But your way doesn't sound dangerous at all. Lots of emergency room workers are counting on guys like me to keep them employed.

MB82, I thought you were making a joke about buying a pile of weeds with a Jeep in the middle. You certainly snatched that one from the jaws of mother earth, just in time it would appear. Love those aluminium wheels. I'd love to find a set of those for my psychadelic wavy gravy SuperJeep.

jeepfreak81 When in Doubt, Pedal out!

I always thought it was Chia (Kai -a) and not Ch-ia like a Chia Pet R)

Now I understand the name R)

Those alum slots or turbines are the same wheels I wouldn't mind finding for the flatty one day.

I agree with whoever said it above... if you get it moving you will have the greatest jeep salvage in history...

Yeah man thanks for the offer, right now I am waiting on someone to get me their towbar so I can take Chia to stoney creek. So who has that bar now :toetap: R)
Actually that was when I graduated highschool in gulp... 2000 has it been that long? gosh I better get to work.

Chia got its name from Jerry, originally I had named it Brew but when I posted those pics Jerry said it looked like a Chiapet and thus the name stuck.

Jason thanks for the compliment. Not much work has been done in the past 2 years.

Guys when I get Chia done I know it will be a momentus day, in all actuality the only parts I should have saved were the vinplate and the t-case. The frame was not bad but everything else needed to go. Did I mention that the last time the Jeep shows record of being registered was before I was born

I would be if these silly guides would not be offering me free days on the water with them. The next two weeks I have two guides lined up for day trips. I am sorry I can't turn down a $300+ day on the water for free doing something I enjoy doing with guys I can learn a ton from.
