Am planning on converting 52 M38 to rear mounted fuel tank. Was at local yard looking for 70's tank. He had none but suggested that a tank from a Ford Bronco 11 may fit. The rough dimmensions were 30"x25"x15". Does anyone know if this will fit or know the dimensions of the area I have to work with after removing draw bar supports? Am in Maine and jeep is in N.H. and he has an almost new tank available. So far have done disc conversion, dual master cylinder, and started steering conversion to Ford reverse. Next steps are to rebuild T90 and D18.

there is a place in Bethel maine that might have the tank you need. I will see if I can find the number for them. What are you going to do with your stock tank? for that matter what are you doing with any of the stock parts you take off?

that wont fit... you have about 25" by 15 or 16" to play with. Postal jeep tank fits nicely. thats the route im planning on taking. Willysworker from this forum did a good job of it on his flattie. He's done such nice work, i actually added his photobucket to my favourites: http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b89/willysworker/Red Dog/

DJ tank, if you can find a supplier. Someone here had one on a flatty, can't remember his name haven't seen on in a while. I'd do a search.

Parts will be available. At this point I have rims (16"), steering box and fuel tank. Was waiting until further along with project. Thanks for responses, looks like I should look for tank from postal jeep.

What shape are our rims in? Mine are good but need cleaning, and if yours only needs new paint it would save me time.

Rims would need to be sand blasted, primed and painted.

Actually from Windham N.H. Retired and spend my summer at a place called Point Sebago in Casco Me. (off 302). Love golf and boating. Gather some of my parts here and took T90 and D18 up here with me to rebuild over the summer. Was at local yard to pick up Ford steering box and he had the Bronco 11 steering box and suggested the gas tank, but that looks like a no go.

Trailquest should be able to make one up for you.

For postal jeep parts I would go here,
    http://www.postaljeep.net/
they are right down the road from me and are very good to deal with.
The parts guy is not into cj parts so you may have to play 20 questions to get info on a postal tank to fit into a cj.

From what I have read and priced, I can get a new tank for a 78 CJ for about $89 to $100. That seemes to be the vintage and tank that most recomend. The prices shown in the previous thread seems to indicate the postal tank to cost much more. Am I correct in assuming most prefer the 78 vintage tank and set up for this conversion?

If i were to do it I would see if I could get a replacemtn tank for the 70/71-75 models, they literally bolted into the frame instead of being held in with a strap.
