I've recently had to repair the exhaust on my '75 recently and the threads on the studs connecting the pipe to the manifold have no threads left. I bought a tap/die set with the hopes of cutting new ones but the space isn't big enough to allow the taps in there. Is there anything I can do short of buying a new manifold?

    Thanks in advance

IIRC, you should be able to replace the studs. You will probably will need to soak with PB Blaster to free them.

If your dies are hex shaped. use a 1" socket and ratchet.

Good call...I'll have to look up the PB Blaster to see where I can buy it. If all else fails, I guess I can remove the manifold for added room (I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier).

If you can't find PB Blaster, something like 'BreakFree' or similar should work too.:beer:

If you take it to a muffler shop, they can blast out the old stud with a cutting torch. I've watched this done on my truck - pretty amazing. Heat it up, a little O2, and it's gone. Not something for the amateur though.

You're right, Tim. And it would be worth the $$$ to have someone else deal with it, and the time saved, too. Plus you're not laying on the ground banging your knuckles getting a kink in your neck!:)

You should be able to find PB Blaster anywhere (good to have around even if you pro this one out). Napa, walmart, etc.
