I've got dizzy.... Problems

It may be an oiler, it pulls up, you're right...

 

his is chain driven if i read his profile correct, may go clock wise, easy way to tell bump starter may need help with that see which direction the rotor turns, that will tell you if the firing order is clock wise or counter clock wise think the L head only has timing marks on the flywheel, and yes thats a oiler, not sure why they deemed it nessary:? but you cant over lubercate these old jeeps R)

 

Yep, for certain a chain drive, honestly I don't know which way it rotates now that you mention it... But the wires did come off 1342, and the head is marked "FIRING ORDER-1-3-4-2" on it in big letters. Dizzy goes clockwise IIRC.

HUGE SIDE NOTE did your rebuilder know its chain driven? if they installed the wrong oilpump the oil pump will not build psi, because it will run backwards,unless they used the gear off of your old pump, just looking out for you man

 

Well he did replace the Chain and gears and guestimated the build date of the engine. He actually said the timing sprockets were quite rare, and he had to overnight one to him. He would eat the shipping ($50) if I payed for the part, so it's all good. I hope he used the same oil pump or one compatible, if it doesn't build PSI I'll call him up.

 

ahhhh just a heads up, when you get the starter mounted and all that jazz remove the coil wire and turn it over with the starter for about 30 seconds and watch the gauge, if its right it should build psi, if not dont panic,30 seconds is only a safe amount of time to not over heat the starter,may take a time or two,and if it still dosent build may have to prime the pump,and if still dont build, would be cursing,.wrong oil pump

 

How does one prime the oil pump?
Now I know I did a terribly bad thing... When I installed the starter... I turned it over to make sure the starter worked (didn't want to do it while holding it ) and it turns just fine, but I fear I de-primmed the oil pump.

 

gets you a gauge hooked up asap,see if it will build psi, dont think there is no such thing as depriming a oil pump,if its not primed all you have to do is remove it pour fresh oil in the intake and turn it by hand till it comes out the other port dont panic, just dont wanna be turning the motor over alot without proper oiling,would take alot to hurt it with the starter,but only a minute or so to destroy the engine if it were runninig without proper lubrication

 

ive got a little faith in your builder,but dont hurt to double check a few things,like old saying goes a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

 

Trust me, I plan on adding all oil and fluid before adding spark and power
I need to plumb it all up (see other thread) then run a make shift wire harness to get it to run, then it's done until the body is back on.

He is a good machinest, he did his dad's F Head in his dads 3B, so I would guess that if he did that, then heck, he can do a good job on mine

 

would go ahead and add oil if its in the frame

 

Silly idea to do, has no oil pan or timing cover, haha
