    New plans:

    Picked up a 59 cj3b today, has a fiberglass tub, plow, F-head (frozen) t-90, d18, d44, d27 front.

Hope to get it running but now plan on doing a :v6:, sm465, dana 44's front and rear (full floating).

    The beginning:

Sound like a fun project. I would like to get a 6, drop in a diesel and an automatic, but keep eveything else looking stock just to tool around in.

    Sounds like a cool build.

Something to think about rear axle wise. Some j trucks came with a d60-2 rear which is a Semi Float d60 with the 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. Might be a worthwhile option for your build. But they are rare. I saw one on ebay afew months ago. Only sold for about $250. Their appeal is extremely limited outside j truck and occoasionaly cj owners, which keeps them pretty cheap.

Yeah, 60-2 in nice but to wide and heavy for what I want. My goal is for it to look 90% original for the outside, but once you start looking it will not be.

    Thinking about 1x1speedcraig's aftermarket frame?

That'd be a nice touch IMO.

I don't know how I missed this thread. Sweet idea!

Ya, save me some time and it will still be stronger than the boxed original frame.

There is a '47 for sale by me locally I am going to go check out.

    will do!

I am going to pick up the frame rails from 1x1speed_craig this week which should help speed it along.

If anyone has any ideas besides some mystery oil down the cylinders to free up the motor please let me know.

I agree that Bill is a handsome fella. :tea:
How thoughtful of you to identify that in your post title. :D

MMO down the cylinders is a good idea, then try to turn it by hand. If you suspect they are badly seized, I'd suggest PB Blaster or Kroil first down the cylinders and let it penetrate a couple days, then try turning the crank nut to see if you can get slight movement, then MMO.

so is the plan still the same or has it changed? i'll keep up with this thread close, cuz i've got some very similar plans for my 3b:)

Plans are the same, but it will be awhile before I can swing buying another 4bt :( The worst part is I know where a sm465 all rebuilt with the short dana 18/20 adapter is for sale

Right now I just want to get it running, then fix up the body. I have the other frame still so I can start on that in a few weeks.

I like it, but man oh man a 4BT is heavy. Aren't there some better options for a CJ, like a Volvo maybe?

Weights the same as a big block chevy R)

There is a 3b with a VW diesel, probably a better choice but what the heck. They were also available with a perkins of some sort, guessing a 3 cylinder.

i,ve seen the 3b with the vw on overland diesel, looks really cool. the 4b sounds like a big heavy motor, from what i've heard(limited knowledge about diesel!) so you say you can hook the 4b to a sm465? tell me more! i've got a 283 chev in mine now so it cant be heavier than thatR)
