I need CJ experts. I was thinking of buying this to add to the family. $1,500 quoted may come down not sure.

Here is what I know 1970ish CJ-5. Buick V6, No rust that I could find. Is it worth the money. Not planning on making it a rock crawler, just like the idea of
a vintage Jeep to cruise around in. If you check out my "Jeep Forum" Build thread below, last page I have some pics.

    Any ideas on price?

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

Flanged rear, single stick t-case, marker lights, I would guess it a 70 or 71.

If it has no rust it's easily worth that much around here.

What about the tranny popping out of gear?

the tranny is probably a t14 if it is a 3 speed its probably a syncro going bad it not that hard to replace just take your time taking it apart

The "classic" problem is pop-out-of-2nd-gear, on decelleration. I know this happens with the T-90, but I expect it happens with all the Borg-Warner 3-speeds. 2nd gear has a bushing inside it that wears out. The gear spins on the main shaft on the bushing, and wear allows it to skew on the shaft. This skew pushes the synchro sleeve away from the gear, and it pops out.

Could be other stuff ... detents on the shaft, worn shifter, shifter hitting the floor pans (bad mounts). Lots of possibilities. Mechanical issues are easy, compared to rust or missing a lot of parts. Look for frame cracks, esp. around the spring mounts.

Cost to fix tranny? If done myself? If done by shop? (Bench Job)

The B-W 3-speeds are easy to work on. Do it yourself, or send it to Herm for exchange www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com - prices for parts and transmissions on his site.

Sounds ok to me ... but "asking us whether to buy a Jeep is like a crack addict asking his crack-smoking buddies whether he should buy more crack." If it's in good condition, $1500 is pretty cheap. Also depends on where you are in the country - west coast seems to be highest.

Its easier for me to post pics on Jeep Forum so sorry in advance. Do any of you guys mind taking a look at pages 13 & 14 of my thread on there and identify some of the "holes" in my body so I can start looking for parts. It starts towards the bottom of page 13. Your welcome to post there if you like. Once again Thanks. :flag:

I got no responces so I figured I better open a photo bucket account so I could post in here. I'm trying to identify the items that would go in the red circles for my slooow restore back to Factory look. The first pic is just to show the Jeep 1971 CJ-5. Thanks for the input!!!!

IIRC the first pic is for a taller loop that supports the hood when it's laying all the way back against the windshield frame. I think it was also rubber coated.

The hole in the fender wasn't factory and the hole in the dash..... I don't know.

The hood tie down should have been in the 1st pic (is that the holes farther back?), nothing there on my 71, the 2nd pic not sure, not factory for a 71 model. The 3rd pic is where my factory or dealer installed lighter is.
