It's a great thing to know the law. It's amazing how many police officers don't know the law when it's their job to enforce it.

I think here in Michigan, you'd be ok if you were wearing eye protection and your windshield was down. Can't remember where I've seen that. Seems logical anyway...

I guess it depends on what you're doing with your jeep. I almost rolled mine a couple of weeks ago doing about a mile per hour. I figure I can't admire my jeep if I'm dead.

I'm going to put one on pretty soon, but I have yet to see a design that I would like on my jeep.

That's always been my knowledge of MI law. Seems silly to need a w/s in a vehicle while guys on cycles just need eye protection.

Depends on what you're using it for, IMO. Obviously, a roll bar is safer than no roll bar. But, I look at it this way: I have a 4-wheeler. It has no roll bar and is capable of 65mph in stock form (not that I've ever even approached that speed). I use my Jeep like a larger, much slower 4 wheeler, putting around the farm, hauling wood and dead deer (if things go well). For this use, a roll bar is a pain in the butt, always in the way, it seems.

That said, if you spend any amount of time on the pavement, at higher speeds, particularly if there are other cars around, a roll bar is a must.

what about no rollbar with a steel hardtop installed? im 6'7" and the bar is against the back of my head. i still need to get new seats and lower the seat mount to get my seating position finalized but getting a steel bar farther away from my head is on my priority list.

Is your steel hardtop off or on the jeep right now? If it's on the ground, give it a push sideways, it's pretty flimsy. I think the steel hardtop gives you a false sense of security.
