Mocked up the '48 today. I'm going to use Stainless Steel bolts for the fenders etc and case hardened for everything else.
Now to rebuild the J-10's carb.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

THe tub looks real good. I'd love to have something like that to start with on a 2A. Have you thought about putting a v6 in it? A 4.3L would be quite spiffy in that.

I have thought about the v6 but everyone I look at needs rebuilding and bellhousings.

Found a Chebby 350 w/clutch bellhousing to go in it.....no I didn't want to go v8 but for 200 bucks, couldn't pass it up.

You will not be sorry. The torque is not really comparable. Just old skool here, but for just slightly more work, a V8 is the way to go, especially a sbc V8. Just pay close attention in the cooling department.

Thank you-I would like to keep it old school but in this case since I don't have the original motor ......

I did get three original radiators w/the Jeep and they look like they are three core.

Will those work or do I need something else?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Definately in the something else catagory and personally, I like aluminum. I am using a National 9605 (25.5 x 19.5 x 3.25") which is a two row cross flow. You will likely have to build a new cross member to fit that because of the hump in the stock one and that also infers Saginaw steering as the bell crank will be going away. There may be shorter versions of it also.

I ran a stock radiator with a 327 for a couple of years and they sort of work as long as ambient temps are no hotter
than mid 70's and you don't do a lot of slow speed crawling. I got pretty good at throwing buckets of water through the front to cool it down but that is not likely available in a lot of places.

Is the cross flow a must for a small rad? What does the cross flow mean (guess I can google it).

Not sure what you mean here ?

    Especially in the desert :)

Sorry for the questions, but it's not clicking right now.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Question, is the leaf spring supposed to be welded to the shackle ?

In this case, this one is broken. Can I weld it back or ?

    Thank,
    Jim

    No, not welded.

That type of spring is called "military wrap" because it has the end of the second leaf wrapped around the primary leaf. I presume it was used on the military Jeeps - it's considered a quality feature. The primary or top leaf has an eye in the end that holds the spring bushing. Normally the primary leaf tightly holds the bushing that keeps the spring in alignment with the shackle. In your picture, it looks like the primary leaf is broken, and the wrap of the second leaf is all that's holding it together. If so, that spring is scrap metal.

OK thank you, I might have another spring here to replace it.

    Thanks,
    Jim

P.S. Got the VIN inspection done-heading in the right direction :)

It's also possible to replace just the primary leaf in that leaf assy..

Well just bought another '48 frame w/a Buick v6 in it. The PO started a rebuild and decided to sell it.

Now I need to find a Buick bell housing.

This addiction will end soon, or that is what I told Peach.

Not sure why the PO put a safety chain on the DSide only ?

Need HBalancer and fan as well as a bell housing.

Not sure where to check for the year and not sure the air cleaner cover is correct.

No pics. I can't see them even on the reno4x4 site - says "invalid attachment link." I suggest you use Photobucket or another photo hosting site.

Work for me even in your post.

I have my own hosting svc/gallery but when I uploaded these w/my iPhone they wouldn't work. I have to figure it out cause I uploaded everything else by the phone.

    Thanks for letting me know.

Did you ever find that bell housing for a Dauntless v-6 engine on the frame in the photo? I have a spare...just sayin.
